BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Round 3 Tips
Heat 1 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Superfast Gordon – 6/1
(2) Denos Bay – 16/1
(3) Southwood Stan – 25/1
(4) Clonfert Annie – 20/1
(5) Buckos Diamond – 1/3
(6) Carrick Aldo – 4/1
Tip
Heat 1 of Round 3 is all about outright market leader Bucko's Diamond at 5/2 who following his 29.03 victory last weekend the second fastest 550-yard run ever with the fastest sectional to the third bend at 16.68. It’s no surprise that he is an extremely short 1/3 to make it 13 wins from 14 races.
Carrick Aldo is my each-way bet at odds of 4/1 for this race though he finished third last weekend that was his quickest time for the 550-yard trip in 29.38 and if he continues to improve he’s the only one who could challenge Buckos Diamond here.
Heat 2 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Ballymac Briar – 6/1
(2) Bubbly Shadow – 4/1
(3) De Lahdedah – 6/4
(4) Scooby Pacemaker – 6/1
(5) Tarsna Maasai – 3/1
(6) Deadly Choice – 7/1
Tip
An intensely competitive heat that will be reflected in the betting ring on Saturday Night, this heat could be all about early pace and who makes the opening bend first. The market leader is naturally English Derby Champion De Lahdedah though following his return to form winning in 29.30 last weekend.
De Lahdedah is still my favourite for this race, but I’d also be looking at Bubbly Shadow each-way at odds of 4/1 after he showed great gears clocking 29.24 last weekend, his best-ever 550-yard run. Further improvement could see him make a mockery of those odds.
Heat 3 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Untold Dollar – 4/1
(2) Randolph Scotts – 10/1
(3) Fairy Footsteps – 10/1
(4) Is She There – 14//1
(5) Glengar Martha – 9/2
(6) Seven Beach – 10/11
Tip
This heat can be split into inside runners who will be looking to do their running from halfway with Untold Dollar for Graham Holland likely to be the fastest of the three which could make odds of 4/1 attractive. On the outside Seven Beach is the race favourite at 10/11 after his 29.37 victory last weekend for Jennifer O’Donnell.
However, my each-way pick for this race Is She There with odds of 14/1 she overcame crowding last weekend to finish second and improve in the clocks with a 29.66. She can start quicker though and if she does will cause Glengar Martha and Seven Beach issues to see who leads.
Heat 4 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Grangeclare Lady – 6/1
(2) Tuono Charlie – 3/1
(3) Extra Gain – 16/1
(4) Down To Business – 12/1
(5) A Lucky Julie – 5/1
(6) March On Freddie – 4/5
Tip
The market leader for this race is March On Freddie who is the second favourite in the outright market at odds of 8/1. The English raider has won both his heats so far in the competition with a 29.19 in the first round and 29.53 last weekend, a few finish quicker than him down the back straight.
Grangeclare Lady at odds of 6/1 is the likely leader and I think she can build on her 29.43 win last weekend to claim the second spot at a minimum for trainer Owen McKenna.
Heat 5 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Singalong Dolly – 9/2
(2) Da Bold Falcon – 11/4
(3) Thats It Jack – 20/1
(4) Hot Wood – 16/1
(5) Dynamic Force – 10/3
(6) Ballinbola Jim – 5/4
Tip
Ballinbola Jim is the current 5/4 favourite for this race and if the Juvenile Derby can replicate his 29.07 victory from last weekend there won’t be many who match him in the entire competition not to mind in this heat.
If looking for value Dynamic Force at odds of 10/3 can go quicker he can find his trapping boots for the 550-yard trip, but on current running Ballinbola Jim remains a value play in the market.
Heat 6 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Kapuka Warrior – 8/1
(2) Ballyhimikin Leo – 20/1
(3) Callaway Knegare – 11/4
(4) Short Grip – 6/1
(5) Robbies Galaxy – 10/1
(6) Bombay Pat – 4/6
Tip
Bombay Pat is the 4/6 favourite for this race following his 29.41 victory last weekend which was his second successive heat victory in the competition. His early pace will always put him in contention.
Callaway Knegare at 11/4 is one of the quickest dogs around but he needs to trap better, especially in better company, or he won’t keep doing enough late to qualify. Robbies Galaxy is my pick though at odds of 10/1 each way, he duly delivered for me last week and I think he could shock the big boys here again.
Heat 7 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Toolmaker Curio – 14/1
(2) Hawkfield Blue – 7/2
(3) House Martin – 3/1
(4) Mustang Fever – 8/1
(5) Blackeyed Turbo – 16/1
(6) Cheap Sandwiches – 8/15
Tip
Cheap Sandwiches is the 8/15 favourite for trainer Paul Hennessy in this race as he looks to land his second successive Derby heat after winning in a frighteningly fast 29.20 last week and I expect him to have far too many gears for his competition here.
However, I think Hawkfield Blue at odds of 7/2 has each-way claims in this race if he can start and finish like he usually does.
Heat 8 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Beanos Podge – 6/1
(2) Whyaye Bonnylad – 10/1
(3) Cheque For Cash – 7/2
(4) Dashing Toro – 6/1
(5) Undulation – 11/4
(6) BoyleSports Bob – 13/8
Tip
The final heat of Round 3 has BoyleSports Bob at odds of 13/8 to land his second Derby heat after his first round 29.25, though he will need to improve on his third and 29.67 from last weekend.
Early Paced Cheque For Cash looks to be the likely leader at odds of 7/2 and if BoyleSports Bob doesn’t find more at the beginning stages of the race might find himself with too many lengths to bring back though I think both should qualify.
