The BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby is well and truly underway! Here we preview each heat on Saturday Night for Round 2 Heats 9-16.
BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Round 2 Tips – Saturday Heats
Heat 9 Preview
(1) De Lahdedah – 1/2
(2) Bartlemy Cop – 25/1
(3) Extra Gain – 16/1
(4) Clonfert Annie – 14/1
(5) Knockeen Dazzler – 5/2
(6) Ryhope Beach – 6/1
The market leader for the first heat on Saturday Night is English Greyhound Derby Champion De Lahdedah with odds of 1/2 to bounce back from his shock defeat last week in the opening round of the Derby.
However my bet in this race is Knockeen Dazzler at 5/2 each way , the Kirby Memorial Champion won his opening heat in 29.72 last weekend and I think he is capable of going far quicker with a run.
Heat 10 Preview
(1) Beanos Podge - 6/1
(2) Whyaye Bonnylad – 5/1
(3) Singalong Dolly– 2/1
(4) Farney Chime – 20/1
(5) Carmac King – EVS
(6) Fahy Hazel– 16/1
An interesting heat with with 47 victories scattered across the racing careers of the 6 greyhounds in the race. Singalong Dolly was an impressive winner in 29.39 last weekend from a fast sectional of 3.38 but was 14/1 for that race. I think 2/1 is far too short a price for this race.
Carmac King is my pick in this race at EVS was unfortunate to come into Bombay Pat last week, but I think he can go quicker to the bend and if he does will post faster than his 29.72 run.
Heat 11 Preview
(1) Southwood Stan - 4/1
(2) Prince Naseem – 7/1
(3) Superfast Gordon– 5/4
(4) Born To Perform– 7/2
(5) Benalmadena Puma– 10/1
(6) Robbies Galaxy– 4/1
Superfast Gordon is the pre-race favourite for Heat 11 with odds of 5/4 to go one better than his runner-up finish behind Magical Sapphire last weekend to win by 1.5 lengths for trainer Pat Buckley.
However, my each-way pick for last weekend Robbies Galaxy may have come 3rd but was a real eye-catcher in doing so at odds of 4/1 and I think he will finally land the spoils from behind in this heat.
Heat 12 Preview
(1) Breaghmore Dice – 10/1
(2) Deelish Nora – 8/1
(3) Bonkersinyonkers 14/1
(4) Down To Business– 8/1
(5) Blackeyed Turbo– 12/1
(6) Bombay Pat– 1/4
The market leader for this race is the sensationally quick Bombay Pat who stopped the clock last week in his victory at 29.34 to finish 5.5 lengths ahead of Carmac King it’s no surprise he’s extremely short at 1/4 for this heat and 8/1 to win the competition outright.
My value player is Down To Business each way at odds of 8/1 he ran well in the first round to win in 29.66 coming 2 lengths clear of runner-up Glitzy Magic.
Heat 13 Preview
(1) Newport Pier - 25/1
(2) Callaway Knegare– 4/7
(3) Quarry Boy – 16/1
(4) Dromana Dano - 20/1
(5) Mustang Fever– 4/1
(6) Ballinbola Jim– 3/1
Callaway Knegare is the current 4/7 favourite for this race and if the Juvenile Derby can return to his 27.96 for the 525-yard form and take it into the 550 that is a justifiable price.
However, my pick for this race is Ballinbola Jim at odds of 3/1 each way for this race the strong running sort won in 29.40 last weekend and if he can replicate it or even build on it again for this heat he will go very close.
Heat 14 Preview
(1) Faypoint Harvey - 5/1
(2) Hawkfield Abbie – 12/1
(3) Bubbly Shadow – 6/1
(4) Is She There – 10/1
(5) Droopys Avatar– 12/1
(6) Boylesports Bob – 4/9
Boylesports Bob is the 4/9 favourite for trainer Paul Hennessy in this race as he looks to land his second successive Derby heat after winning in a frighteningly fast 29.25 last week.
However, I think the early-paced Is She There at odds of 10/1 could be a value play in the betting ring next Saturday Night.
Heat 15 Preview
(1) Ower Cracker - 7/4
(2) Da Foxy Devil– 6/1
(3) Arthur Cornflake – 6/1
(4) Dashing Toro – 7/2
(5) Scooby Pacemaker– 8/1
(6) Deadly Choice – 11/4
Ower Cracker is the 7/4 favourite for this race following his 29.23 third-place finish last week he was fast away but impeded at the first bend finishing 7.5 lengths back of winner Bombay Pat.
Deadly Choice is my pick for this race at odds of 11/4 he stayed strong last weekend to come second behind In Good Time, but if he can start quicker than his 3.70 sectional from last weekend I think he can win for trainer Michael J O’Donovan.
Heat 16 Preview
(1) Ballymac Briar - 6/1
(2) Castleivy Ginge– 14/1
(3) Ballymac Danica – 5/2
(4) Hello Diego – 8/1
(5) Hot Wood– 16/1
(6) Cheap Sandwiches – 8/11
The final heat of Round 2 has Cheap Sandwiches at odds of 8/11 favourite to win its 5th race following his runner-up run last weekend to finish well after trouble 3.5 lengths behind surprise winner Benalmadena Puma.
However, my value bet in this race is early paced Ballymac Danica (since ruled out as a non runner) for trainer Liam Dowling after her impressive performance to win in 29.82 last weekend. She should get a run along the inside Saturday Night and then it depends on what Cheap Sandwiches does on the outside.
