2024 Boyle Sports Irish Greyhound Derby

The BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby is well and truly underway! What started as 156 dogs on the opening weekend is already down to 78. Here we preview each heat on Friday Night for Round 2 Heats 1-8.

BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Round 2 Tips – Friday Heats

Heat 1 Preview

(1) Kapuka Warrior - 11/10

(2) Toolmaker Curio – 8/1

(3) That’s It Jack – 8/1

(4) Syd Zafiro – 7/2

(5) Magical Sapphire – 5/2

(6) Crokers Rocket – 20/1

The market leader for the first heat of the second round is Kapuka Warrior at odds of 11/10 following his commanding 29.55 victory last week and on each greyhound's most recent line of form.

A great each way chance in this race is Syd Zafiro at odds of 7/2 who overcame trouble last weekend to qualify. If she can break a little better she has all the legs to win this race for trainer Peter Cronin.

Syd Zafiro @ 7/2

Heat 2 Preview

(1) Ballymac Finn - 5/1

(2) Randolph Scotts – 4/1

(3) Fairy Footsteps – 8/1

(4) Dark Dilemma – 5/1

(5) Glitzy Magic – 16/1

(6) Dynamic Force – 4/7

This heat has several strong running greyhounds who overcame poor breaks from traps and/or trouble at the bends to gain the elusive qualification for the second round. However, I can’t look past the favourite.

Dynamic Force at odds of 4/7 was a good 29.67 winner last weekend and should have too much early dash for his opposition to find from behind.

Heat 3 Preview

(1) House Martin - 8/1

(2) Tempestade – 33/1

(3) Droopys Metaphor– 5/1

(4) Ballyhimikin Leo – 20/1

(5) Tivoli Milo – 12/1

(6) March On Freddie – 1/4

March on Freddie was a sensationally fast winner last weekend for British trainer David Mullins clocking 29.19 for his first 550-yard race at Shelbourne Park it’s no surprise with lengths to spare he is a heavy favourite at odds of 1/4.

However, even if he does win this heat the battle in-behind could present a much more compelling betting market. Droopys Metaphor was one I tipped each-way last weekend and though he didn’t deliver he was somewhat unlucky in third. He should come on from the run and is my each-way bet at 5/1 .

Heat 4 Preview

(1) Cheque For Cash - 5/2

(2) Da Bold Falcon – 3/1

(3) Untold Dollar – 11/8

(4) Miami King– 8/1

(5) Up Front Magic– 25/1

(6) Deadly Disco– 8/1

This is one of the most competitive heats of the second round first night on paper with all 6 dogs in the race relatively consistent sorts all with strong clocks achieved. Thus even though market favourite Untold Dollar ran well to beat Glengar Martha last week in 29.55 I’d be challenging him at odds of 11/8.

My value player is Up Front Magic each way at odds of 25/1 he ran well in behind Dynamic Force last week and as a young and lightly raced dog should have plenty of improvement in him.

Heat 5 Preview

(1) Clona Duke - 7/4

(2) Hawkfield Blue– 7/2

(3) Clona Stand – 8/1

(4) Grangeclare Lady - 5/1

(5) Glengar Martha– 7/2

(6) Maireads Prince– 6/1

Clona Duke returned from a racing layoff last weekend to be an impressive 29.66 winner. It’s not surprising the Graham Holland-trained dog is the 7/4 favourite for this race.

Glengar Martha was a good second though between an HD in 29.56 and with odds of 7/2 has strong each-way claims .

Heat 6 Preview

(1) Rushy Meadows - 8/1

(2) Daleroad Devon – 14/1

(3) Unanimouspanther – 5/1

(4) Short Grip – 10/3

(5) Seven Beach– 11/8

(6) Tarsna Maasai – 3/1

Seven Beach is the 11/8 favourite for trainer Jennifer O’Donnell looking to land his second successive Derby heat after winning in 29.50 last week.

However, I tipped Rushy Meadows for 2nd last week and though she came 3rd I fancy her to make a play each way again at odds of 8/1 .

Heat 7 Preview

(1) Tuono Charlie - 7/1

(2) Scooby The Boss– 16/1

(3) Ballymac Gizmo – 12/1

(4) In Good Time – 10/1

(5) Carrick Aldo– 7/2

(6) Buckos Diamond– 1/2

Buckos Diamond is the 1/2 favourite for this race as well as the Ante Post favourite with odds of 4/1 to win the competition outright following his 29.23 victory last week he has lengths to spare on his competition.

The real race should be in-behind and while Carrick Aldo was an impressive winner last week in 29.42. My pick would be In Good Time each way at odds of 10/1 .

Heat 8 Preview

(1) Droopys Carbine - 8/1

(2) Jaytee Craze– 4/1

(3) Denos Bay – 25/1

(4) Undulation – 5/2

(5) Tribal Syd– 6/4

(6) A Lucky Julie– 7/2

The final heat of the first night of Round 2 has Tribal Syd at odds of 6/4 favourite to win its 16th race from 33 starts following his 29.50 run last week for trainer Murt Leahy.

However, my value bet in this race is Jaytee Craze at odds of 4/1 for trainer Paul Hennessy after his impressive performance to win in 29.71 last weekend, few will be finishing quicker on Friday Night.
