The BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby continues on Saturday Night with 78 dogs battling it out for a place in the second round. Here we preview each heat from Round 1 Heats 14-26.
BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Round 1 Tips – Saturday Heats
Heat 14 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Castleivy Ginge - 6/1
(2) Ballymac Briar – 3/1
(3) Phoneix Memphis – 5/2
(4) Deelish Nora – 6/1
(5) Droopys Supply – 9/4
(6) Tivoli Milo – 6/1
Tip
The first heat of Night 2 in the Derby looks to be a straight shootout between Phoneix Memphis at 5/2 for trainer Ian Reilly and Droopys Supply at 9/4 for Cork trainer John A Linehan the latter of whom clocked a promising 28.03 around Shelbourne last weekend for the 525-yard trip. Phoenix Memphis is my fancy here though he should have too much early gear for his competition.
Heat 15 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Crescent Emily - 14/1
(2) Tuono Charlie – 3/1
(3) Poets Dawn– 8/1
(4) Scooby Pacemaker – 6/1
(5) Short Grip – 4/1
(6) BoyleSports Bob– EVS
Tip
This looks to be an extremely competitive heat though BoyleSports Bob who is one of the quickest hounds in training is a deserved favourite at EVS. However, I like the look of British raider Tuono Charlie each way at 3/1.
Heat 16 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Miami King - 10/3
(2) Syd Zafiro – 9/2
(3) Burgess Supreme– 20/1
(4) Bredas Wood– 10/1
(5) Rough Rocco– 33/1
(6) March On Freddie– 1/2
Tip
This race looks to be all about one of the Ante Post favourites March On Freddie who is heavy favourite at 1/3 to land this heat in the first round. Regardless of how quick he is those odds are far too short to be backing so Syd Zafiro each way at 9/2 is my choice given her impressive record in Britain.
Heat 17 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Faypoint Harvey - 11/4
(2) Riverside Scotch – 14/1
(3) Tempestade – 12/1
(4) Southwood Stan – 12/1
(5) Elite Josh– 10/1
(6) Tribald Syd– 1/2
Tip
It’s very difficult to see past Tribal Syd here even with odds of 1/2 he seems to have lengths to spare against his opposition and is ideally drawn. Faypoint Harvey is very quick herself though unexposed in this track if he can run her race at odds of 11/4 he has each-way claims for success.
Heat 18 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Hawkfield Blue - EVS
(2) Ballymac Gizmo – 7/2
(3) Swords Don – 10/1
(4) Sundance Shirley– 33/1
(5) Yorkie Ollie– 7/2
(6) Deadly Disco– 4/1
Tip
Hawkfield Blue is the EVS favourite here to land heat 18 for trainer John F McGee and to continue her prolific winning record. However, I like the look of Ballymac Gizmo at 7/2 her recent 29.55 trial last weekend is promising for her prospects of going far in the competition.
Heat 19 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Ballyhooly Bruno – 6/1
(2) Scooby The Boss – 9/2
(3) Grangeclare Lady – 3/1
(4) Neko Harbour – 5/4
(5) Mustang Fever – 4/1
(6) Crokers Rocker – 33/1
Tip
This heat could be a battle of litter sister and brother with Grangeclare Lady at 3/1 and Neko Harbour at odds of 5/4 the progeny Droopys Sydney and Susie Sapphire it's no surprise that they both don’t lack pace. Neko Harbour could still be the value bet in this race at those prices.
Heat 20 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) De Lahdedah – 4/9
(2) Val Tshadelek – 25/1
(3) Ardera Sam – 10/1
(4) Deanos Bay – 16/1
(5) Dashing Toro – 4/1
(6) Ballinbola Jim – 5/1
Tip
One of pre-competition Ante Post favourites De Lahdedah looks well placed to win this heat with odds of 4/9. However, the interesting thing to watch here will be the race in-behind and I think strong-running Dashing Toro with odds of 4/1 is a great each-way bet having never been outside the money places from 11 starts.
Heat 21 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Harlequin Dublin - 16/1
(2) Arthur Cornflake– 8/1
(3) Rapido Bob – 5/2
(4) May Bozada – 6/1
(5) Dromana Dano– 14/1
(6) Knockeen Dazzler– 4/6
Tip
Knockeen Dazzler is the natural favourite here with odds of 4/6 to continue his flying 2024 racing season. May Bozada at odd of 6/1 might come close to second place if he can build on his 29.83 best run for the 550.
Heat 22 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Astra Fairy- 10/1
(2) Pivotal Time – 25/1
(3) Untold Dollar – 8/11
(4) Droopys Avatar – 4/1
(5) Hot Wood – 6/1
(6) Glengar Martha – 4/1
Tip
Untold Dollar is a worthy favourite here considering he has clocked 29.39 for this 550-yard trip and seems to have the legs to fly fast early doors at odds of 8/11. Those odds are short though and I’m favouring veteran Glengar Martha at odds of 4/1 each way.
Heat 23 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Born To Perform - 7/4
(2) Carrick Keano – 6/4
(3) Bonkersinyonkers – 4/1
(4) Clonfert Annie – 6/1
(5) Fireheight Kane – 14/1
(6) Fahy Hazel – 12/1
Tip
With Carrick Keano a reported non-runner, the race looks to have opened up nicely for Born To Perform to win at odds of 7/4.
Heat 24 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Bartley Cop - 12/1
(2) Neon Lights– 6/1
(3) Hello Sonny– 20/1
(4) In Good Time– 4/1
(5) Blackeyed Turbo– 5/2
(6) Deadly Choice – EVS
Tip
Deadly Choice looks to be the comfortable favourite for this race at EVS for his trainer Michael J O’Donovan and it’s very hard to look past him even if he can get the better of Blackeyed Turbo on the outside at 5/2.
Heat 25 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Prince Naseem- 5/1
(2) Quarry Boy – 8/1
(3) Romeo Taylor – 11.8
(4) Is She There – 4/1
(5) Hello Diego – 9/2
(6) Droopys Roar – 5/1
Tip
It’s all about Romeo Taylor at 11/8 in this race as he looks to win his 12th race from what will be his 28th race showing that he is one of the most consistent greyhounds around no matter who the opposition is. Strong-running Hello Diego could be worth an eachway bet here at odds of 9/2 though.
Heat 26 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Roanna Bonnie – 25/1
(2) Crafty Shivoo – 5/4
(3) Ballyhimikin Leo– 8/1
(4) Benalmadena Puma – 10/1
(5) Not A Wink– 25/1
(6) Cheap Sandwiches – 10/11
Tip
The final heat of the first night of the round has Laurels Champion Crafty Shivoo at 5/4 going head-to-head with one of the leading Ante Post fancies Cheap Sandwiches who is 10/11 for this heat and I think the former is the better priced of the two for this race.
