BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Quarter-Finals Tips
Heat 1 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) De Lahdedah – 3/1
(2) Superfast Gordon – 10/1
(3) Cheque For Cash – 12/1
(4) March On Freddie – 4/1
(5) Ballinbola Jim – 3/1
(6) Bombay Pat – 2/1
Tip
The first heat of the Quarter-Finals on Saturday Night is very much the “heat of death” with all six dogs not just potential heat winners as shown by the competitive betting market but all are also potential finalists or even Outright BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby winners!
The market leader for this race (albeit marginally) is Bombay Pat for trainer Graham Holland at odds of 2/1 for the heat victory. The September 2022 son of Pestana and Clear Mountain has won his last 5 races on the spin which includes three rounds of this competition in 29.34, 29.41 and 29.30.
De Lahdedah is my each-way bet at odds of 3/1, though he only finished third last weekend he overcame crowding at the first bend to run on strongly to earn all-important qualification for this weekend. Ballinbola Jim at odds of 3/1 can’t be discounted either.
Heat 2 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Untold Dollar – 3/1
(2) Ballymac Briar – 14/1
(3) Singalong Dolly – 8/1
(4) Mustang Fever – 25/1
(5) A Lucky Julie – 5/1
(6) Cheap Sandwiches – 4/6
Tip
The second heat of the Quarter-Finals is all about #6 the September 2022 son of Burgess Buck and Hearrhill Josie, Cheap Sandwiches for trainer Graham Holland at odds of 4/6 to win the heat. The impressive dog finished third in the first round but has since gone from strength to strength winning the last two rounds in 29.20 and 29.18.
It’s very difficult to look past the favourite for this race. However, there is one dog which has caught my eye for this heat and it’s another Graham Holland runner, Untold Dollar in #1 showed tremendous gears in victory last weekend beating Seven Beach by 6 lengths in 29.34 and at odds of 3/1 he would be my each-way play in the betting ring.
Heat 3 Preview
Traps & Odds
(1) Extra Gain – 20/1
(2) Da Bold Falcon – 7/2
(3) Undulation – 3/1
(4) Is She There – 33//1
(5) BoyleSports Bob – 9/4
(6) Carrick Aldo – 13/8
Tip
The third heat of the Quarter-Finals has in my opinion two of the best value outside bets to land the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby in BoyleSports Bob who is 16/1 to land the competition and Carrick Aldo who is priced at 20/1.
The market leader for this race is the August 2021 son of Droopys Sydney and Minnies Hazel for trainer David Murray at odds of 13/8. Carrick Aldo hasn’t won a heat since his first-round victory in 29.42 but it was his latest performance where he caught the eye finishing only 3 lengths behind the track record-winning run of Burgess Diamond.
While I fancy Carrick Aldo for the heat I think there is more value in BoyleSports Bob at odds of 9/4 who is ultra-consistent for trainer Paul Hennessy and is going under the radar with two sub 29.30 runs in the competition with a 29.25 and a 29.15 so far in the competition.
Heat 4
Traps & Odds
(1) Callaway Knegare – 4/1
(2) Hawkfield Blue – 14/1
(3) Short Grip – 20/1
(4) Scooby Pacemaker – 16/1
(5) Buckos Diamond – 4/11
(6) Seven Beach – 5/1
Tip
The final heat of this race is all about Buckos Diamond and justifiably so following his Track Record run of 28.94 last weekend which made it 13 victories and 1 runner-up finish from his 14 races since making his racing debut in March of this year. It’s no surprise he is 4/11 to win this heat and 6/4 to win the competition outright.
If looking for a value each way bet Scooby Pacemaker could be an attractive betting prospect at odds of 16/1 for trainer Jennifer O’Donnell. In the second round, he displayed all sorts of gears winning in 29.16 and if he can replicate that line of form again he has every chance of coming second in this race.
