Following the later start to BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby last year, this year it’s set again for its usual date with it starting in August and ending in September at Shelbourne Park where some of the quickest hounds from Ireland and the UK battle it out for the most prestigious race in Greyhound Racing.
The reigning Champion is Bockos Diamond who was a remarkable winner of the event for trainer Graham Holland going unbeaten through every round and even winning his semi-final in 28.94 a Track Record for the 550-yard trip at Shelbourne Park.
Bockos Diamond likely be entered again in the hope he can retain his title this coming September, but there will be a competitive field as always with Cheap Sandwiches, De Lahdedah and Bombay Pat all worthy contenders too among others,

Cheap Sandwiches
Cheap Sandwiches
The latest favourite for the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby is the Graham Holland trained Cheap Sandwiches who connections will be hoping can go one better this time around.
The September 2022 whelp and son of Burgess Bucks and Hearthill Josie was the runner-up in the 2024 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby coming only 1 length behind his kennel mate Bockos Diamond his 29.33 he clocked in that final would’ve won him 17 of the last 20 finals.
Plenty was expected of him ahead of the competition, and he opened the first round with 29.53 victory coming 2 lengths ahead of Daraghs Sydney. He followed that up by going slightly faster and staying unbeaten in this years competition winning the following week in 29.49 coming 5 lengths ahead of Brunch Pal.
For followers of the current outright market, his buckle with Proper Heiress caught the eye in the third round where he was handed his first defeat of this years competition coming 1 length back of the UK hope, but there was very little to split the dogs even in the sectionals with both dogs posting a 17.04 ad 17.07 respectively.
Following that defeat, he’s reached another level in recent weeks, winning his quarter-final in 29.27 coming 7 lengths ahead of Droopys Deploy and booked his place in the final in even quicker fashion last week, blowing away the field in 29.14, finishing 12.5 lengths ahead of Oreo Ollie after trouble in-behind.
It'll take a serious dog to stop him and he heads into the final as a worthy favourite.

Proper Heiress
Proper Heiress
Next in the betting is leading home hope the Mark Wallis trained son of Droopys Sydney and Po werful Mush who will be looking to be the first English trained winner of the event since Toms The Best who was trained by Nick Savva in 1997.
The September 2022 whelp has been a serial scorer on the tracking since debuting during the Ennscorthy unraced at the end of July and the start of August 2024. He made the venture across the water and has already gone on to rack up an exceptional CV with successes in the 2024 Coral Olympic, 2025 Cat 1 Winter Derby, the Juvenile Championship at Towcester and the Sussex Cup at Hove.
Following the news that Proper Heiress would cross the Irish Sea and challenge Ireland's best there was a great deal of expectations about the dogs chances. He duly delivered in the opening two weeks of the competition winning in 29.45 and 29.88 beating the likes of Sunshine Sioux, Ballinabola Joe and Ballymac Stud.
If people doubted this dog, they were silenced in the third round though with a tremendous showing to finish 1 length ahead of current marker favourite Cheap Sandwiches in 29.27. Last week, he ran flat, but lady luck was on his side after he qualified by finishing 4th following the disqualification of Oreo Ollie.
This is a special greyhound and one with huge claims for outright success.
Glengar Silent
Glengar Silent
Glengar Silent trained by Pat Buckley and he son of Droopys Sydney and Singalong Sally is leading market contender for the competition.
The November 2023 dog debuted at Shelbourne Park toward the end of June coming 3rd and clocking 28.54 and is only 9 races into his career.
Glengar was arguably fortunate to qualify in the opening round finishing 4th in the opening round but is another who seems to have grown into the competition. In the second round he won in 29.48 coming 6 lengths ahead of Lennies Madge and in the third round finished 2nd 2 lengths behind Magical Mag who won in 29.51.
It was his performance in last week's semi-final which really caught the eye when he posted his quickest sectional of the competition away with a 3.40 and went on to win in a swift 29.26, coming 2 lengths ahead of Droopys Deploy.
Another lightly raced, young contender for glory.
Magical Mag
Magical Mag
Magical Mag is the daughter of Ballymac Cashout and Mystical Luna trained by Patrick Guilfoyle is another one of the market leaders for the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby.
The December 2022 whelp debuted at Shelbourne in October 2024, but it took till it's third race at Limerick when she got her first win in 28.61. Though a dog with clear potential he failed to recognise his "true" pace until last July when he won at Shelbourne Park in a swift 28.11 for her 7th career success.
In the opening round she came 3rd clocking 30.11 in behind Cosmonaut and Ballymac Axel. Since that run has kicked on further going unbeaten in 29.42, 29.51 and in 29.69.
Last weekend her winning streak ended, but she still earned an all-important qualifying spot, finishing 3 lengths behind winner Glengar Silent and 2 behind runner-up Droopys Deploy, but a time of 29.50 was still her second fastest of the competition so far.
A dog coming to hand nicely, will need further improvement to figure for outright success.
Other Contenders
Other Contenders
Droopys Deploy is priced at 25/1 and is a seriously fast hound and few (if any) will be finishing quicker on Saturday Night, the issue is his tardiness from boxes, which he will have to improve on if he’s to feature for a trio place. Betting on Droopys Deploy to win without Cheap Sandwiches @ 6/1
Rounding off the market is Barefoot On Song a 40/1 who's early-pace gives her trio claims, but would need luck to finish any higher, but shouldn't be disrespected. If you fancy an alternative wager Barefoot On Song to beat Droopys Deploy @ 7/4
