It was a brilliant Saturday night at Shelbourne Park with the Brendan Matthews trained De Machine becoming the 2021 BoyleSports Champion Stakes winner in superb fashion.
This pacey son of Droopys Cain – Precious Story made the most of the traffic problems at the first bend as he scooted around the Dublin circuit to clock a fast 29.41 and collect the €20,000 prize.
It was also the final of the BoyleSports Champion Plate with trainer Graham Holland enjoying the success with the speedy Jackslittlething for the Pillar syndicate. Spirits were high at HQ on Saturday night as this son of Droopys Sydney – Limini claimed the €2,500 prize after a blistering start from trap five to clock 29.31.
His impressive performance has resulted in the sponsors cutting his chances of Derby success into 16/1 from 33/1 meaning he is now the third co-favourite for the €125,000 event alongside Deadly Destroyer.
Re Sure for owner Dave Buckley and trainer Martin Lanney won the BoyleSports Derby Trial Stake in 29.87 and has been introduced to the Irish Derby market at 66/1.
He finished three lengths ahead of the Paul Hennessy trained Jaytee Wexford with the future looking bright for this youngster who doesn’t turn 2-years of age until October so he will be one of the youngest runners in the Derby.
Explosive Boy was a non-runner on the supporting card at Shelbourne Park but has been cut into the sole favourite for the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby at 10/1 from 12/1 without even running. Ballymac Ariel is the 12/1 second favourite and it’s all systems go with the big event just around the corner.
