The 5-year-old Ocastle des Mottes is an up-and-coming sort for the WP Mullins team with 2 wins from 7 races since the horse made its debut on track at Fontainebleau in November 2022 when the horse placed 6th from 13.

Ocastle des Mottes’s most recent outing on track was at Auteuil where the horse won the field of 12 beating runner-up Mamix’s Passion by 2 lengths. In the meantime, it was announced on the 24th of October that the horse had switched stables from Gabriel Leenders to W P Mullins.

Verdict

The trainer change has prompted punters and odds compilers to collectively bring the horse into favouritism. However, the long lay-off remains a concern in terms of track muscle memory.

Iberico Lord

The second favourite to win the 2024 Betfair Hurdle is Iberico Lord at 6/1 per the latest horse racing betting odds at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that Jonbon has a 14.3% chance of winning this race.

The 6-year-old Iberico Lord has a record of 3 victories and 1 runner-up finish from 7 rules races. The horse won its maiden outing at Le Lion-D'Angers in May 2022 before switching stables to the Nicky Henderson yard the following November where the horse has remained since.

Lord’s most recent outing was at Ascot last December where the horse was 7th and 3rd last in the field coming 7 and 3/4 lengths back of winner Luccia.

Verdict

The horse will need to improve from its recent showing to stand a chance of success here.

Altobelli

Odds

The third favourite to win the 2024 Betfair Hurdle is Altobelli at odds of 15/2. Those odds suggest that the horse has an 11.8% chance of winning this race.

The 6-year-old Altobelli trained by Harry Fry is another contender for this race coming in with an impressive career record heading into this event, the horse has 3 successes, 1 runner-up finish and 1 third finish from 6 outings.

Altobelli last December finished 3rd and just 1 and ½ lengths behind winner Luccia. However, despite that horse's promising showing, it has been without success since winning in Carlisle in February last year. 

Verdict

Recent runs suggest the horse could go close and 11/2 seems an attractive price.

Aurigny Mill

Further out in the betting to win the 2024 Betfair Hurdle we have Aurigny Mill odds of 16/1. Those odds suggest that Jonbon has a 5.9% chance of winning this race.

The 7-year-old Auriigny Mill is another at the top of the betting market trained by Victor Dartnall. The horse's current career record is 3 successes and 1 runner-up finish from 9 outings.

The horse recently won at Kempton last December over the 2-mile distance coming 7 and ½ lengths ahead of runner-up Tapley. This was the horse's second successive victory following a success at Wincanton two weeks prior.

Verdict

The horse is in flying form, but this could be a step up in class too far at this stage in the horse's career.
