Best Picture Oscars Betting Favourites & Preview
Anora (4/9)
Implied Probability: 69.2%
Sean Baker’s Anora has dominated the awards circuit, securing wins at the Directors Guild of America Awards, the Producers Guild of America Awards, and the Critics Choice Awards. These victories are crucial, as the Producers Guild of America winner has gone on to win Best Picture at the Oscars in all but three instances since 2009.
The film follows Ani (Mikey Madison), an Uzbek-American stripper, and her whirlwind romance with the son of a Russian oligarch. Despite a slow start to awards season with no wins at the Golden Globes, its momentum has surged, making it the deserving frontrunner at 4/9.
Conclave (5/2)
Implied Probability: 28.6%
Edward Berger’s Conclave has gained traction in recent weeks, winning Best Picture at the BAFTAs and the SAG Awards. The film, centered around a high-stakes Vatican election, boasts a stellar cast led by Ralph Fiennes.
Historically, the last three winners of the Best Picture at the SAG Awards have gone on to claim the Oscar, providing hope for Conclave 's backers. However, the film’s failure to receive nominations for Best Director and Best Cinematography suggests it may not have widespread Academy support, making it a clear but distant second favorite.
The Brutalist (7/1)
Implied Probability: 12.5%
Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist made waves early in the season by winning Best Motion Picture – Drama at the Golden Globes.
The film tells the story of László Tóth, a Hungarian-Jewish architect navigating post-war America, played by Adrien Brody. While it remains a strong contender, momentum has shifted away from it following its Golden Globe victory, and it is now seen as an outsider in the race. However, it is the frontrunner in the Best Cinematography category, which could indicate some level of industry support.
Best Picture Oscars Prediction & Best Bet
Anora appears to be the clear favorite, given its crucial wins at the Directors Guild and Producers Guild Awards. While Conclave has built a strong case with its BAFTA and SAG victories, the lack of key Oscar nominations may hinder its chances.
The Brutalist remains an interesting outsider and represents the best value in the betting market but seems to have lost momentum. Given the predictive power of the PGA and DGA Awards, Anora is the most likely winner on the night, although at such short odds, it's not such an enticing bet.
