Belarus v Northern Ireland Preview
Belarus’ Form
Belarus are currently managed by Spaniard Carlos Ferrer (49) who has already had a coaching career spanning two decades and has held several interesting positions including Kazakhstan U17, Qatar SC and Rwanda in recent years. Since his appointment in December 2023, he’s managed them to 3 wins, 5 draws and just 4 defeats from 12 games.
Belarus have on occasion alternated their approach in friendlies with 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 all being used in 2024. However, in the Nations League, they’ve exclusively used the 3-4-3 formation. They have averaged 10.5 shots an average of.40% of possession, a pass completion percentage of 77.5% and 13.5 aerials won during the group.
They looked to be improving under Carlos Ferrer and can’t be dismissed ahead of the game.

Northern Ireland’s Form
Northern Ireland’s most successful manager Michael O’Neill after several seasons away managing Stoke was reappointed to the role in December 2022. In his first nine-year tenure he had a win rate of 36.11. Interestingly the win rate this time around his win-rate has risen to 37.5% with 6 wins, 1 draw and 9 defeats since his return.
For such a small area, they’ve several quality footballers at their disposal, Jamal Lewis is currently on loan to Brazilian side São Paulo, Standard Liege midfielder Issac Price and headliner Liverpool defender Conor Bradley are all at their disposal. Young Callum Marshal (19) l who plays for West Ham could be their ace in the pack though.
A team which punches above its weight at times, though they lost their last game to Bulgaria they will fancy landing a win here.

Key Players To Watch
Valery Gromyko – Belarus.
The man who came off the bench for Belarus against Luxembourg in their last game to score and give Belarus the win is my key player to watch for this game as I expect him to start. The left-footer is capable of playing out wide or in the AM position he plays his club football in Kazakhstan with Kairat and has 6 goals and 3 assists from 21 games this season and could be Belarus’s biggest goal threat.
Conor Bradley – Northern Ireland
The Castlederg native (21) is arguably Northern Ireland’s most promising talent in decades. Last season was a breakout year for him at club level where he impressed across 23 appearances in all competitions. Bradley is likely to occupy the RWB role in this side and with defensive and attacking numbers in the elite range it will be fascinating to see how his career progresses.
Belarus v Northern Ireland Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Belarus 0-2 Northern Ireland
Belarus have shown signs of progression under their latest coach and certainly can’t be underestimated when playing at home though the game will be played behind closed doors due to sanctions from the ongoing political conflict.
Northern Ireland certainly have the right man in the dugout and have a few talented players at their disposal to form the bedrock of a decent side in time.
I think Northern Ireland will get over the line in this one eventually, especially with no away supporters to contend with.
Best Bet: Northern Ireland Win + Under 2.5 Goals @ 5/2
