Bayern v Leverkusen Preview
Bayern’s Form
Before last season Bayern dominated the Bundesliga winning 11 consecutive titles but in 23/24 they were undone to the fairytale story of Leverkusen led by Alonso guided them to their first Bundesliga trophy. That prompted them to sign the likes of Olise, Paulinha and Ito for a net spend of €-67.65m this summer. That spending has hit all the right notes with Bayern leading the Bundesliga eight clear of Leverkusen with fourteen games remaining in the league season.
Their Champions League campaign commenced slowly with only three points in their opening three games. However, they then came to life with four wins in their remaining five league phase games scoring ten goals and conceding five. In the knockout phase, they overcame Celtic albeit by a smaller margin than expected only 2-3 on aggregate following a 1-2 first-leg win and a 1-1 draw in the second leg.
Bayern were beaten semi-finalists last season losing out 3-4 on aggregate to Real Madrid but despite a slow start to the competition they have the players to go even further this time around.

Leverkusen’s Form
Leverkusen were the story of the 23/24 season for their performances under Xabi Alonso which culminated in their seminal Bundesliga victory coming 17 points ahead of Bayern and phenomenally going unbeaten. They also won the DFB Pokal and finished runner-up in the Europa League. This season hasn’t hit the same heights currently trailing Bayern by eight points in the Bundesliga though they also have a DFB Pokal semi-final to look forward to having won the DFL SuperCup last August after a 2-2 draw beating Stuttgart 4-3 on penalties.
Leverkusen have been excellent in the Champions League this season with their sixteen-point total from their league phase games meaning they finished in sixth place automatically advancing to the Round of 16. However, it should be noted that the draw was kind to them with their only win of note 1-0 over Inter and they were also hammered 4-0 by Liverpool.
They remain a dangerous side in this competition and if they can overcome this tie their odds will shorten considerably.

Key Players To Watch
Harry Kane – Bayern Munich
Despite a red-hot first season for Bayern since signing from Tottenham last season 44 goals and 12 assists in 45 games was ironically not enough to land Bayern any trophy despite their previous Bundesliga dominance.
Kane has similarly started this season with 29 goals and 10 assists from 33 games. Harry Kane is 10/3 to score first and EVS to score anytime.
Harry Kane first goal -10/3
Florian Wirtz - Leverkusen
The German Attacking Midfielder (21) is a magical midfielder whose dribbling, creative play and general link-up has seen him linked with all of Europe’s Elite clubs.
This season he has 15 goals and 13 assists in 37 games across all competitions including 3 goals in 2 Champions League games. If you fancy him to score against Liverpool he is 10/1 to score first and 10/3 to score anytime.
Florian Wirtz anytime goal - 10/3
Bayern v Leverkusen Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Bayern 2-1 Leverkusen
Bayern have looked stronger in the Bundesliga this season than in the Champions League but ironically in this all-Bundesliga Champions League tie, this may be exactly what they need.
Leverkusen's rise as a competitive side at the top of European Football has been remarkable and they can’t be discounted here.
There could be goals in this one, but I think Bayern have enough in the end to win.
