Loughrea Lack Support For Sunday Showdown

Ballygunner are hot odds-on favourites to be crowned All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling champions for the second time in five years this weekend as they prepare to face Loughrea in Sunday’s final at Croke Park.

The 12-in-a-row Waterford champions had to turn around a two-point half-time deficit to St. Martin’s in their pre-Christmas semi-final, but punters expect plain sailing for the Munster men with BOYLE Sports chalking them up as 1/3 favourites to get their hands on the Tommy Moore Cup, just four years after they landed their first All-Ireland title at the expense of Ballyhale Shamrocks.

Galway Kingpins Loughrea will have to overcome odds of 21/10 to claim their first All-Ireland crown and will go into Sunday’s showdown without midfielder Cullen Killeen, who has failed with an appeal to overturn a one-match suspension.

Dessie Hutchinson is the man to watch for Ballygunner according to the betting, with the Deise forward favourite to be first to find the net (4/1) and to be named man of the match (9/2).

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:

“Ballygunner have long ruled the roost in Waterford and with their breakthrough All-Ireland success still fresh in the memory, the vast majority are backing them to repeat the trick against Loughrea.”
