Ballon d’Or Betting Favourites
Vinicius Jr. - 5/4
The current favourite to win the Ballon d'Or in October is Vinicius Jr. at odds of 5/4. Those odds imply that the Real Madrid and Brazil man has a 44.4% chance of winning the coveted trophy.
What a season it has been for Vinicius Jr. scoring 24 goals and assisting 11 times across 39 games in all competitions for Real Madrid when you break that down further it works out as 1.02 goal contributions per 90 minutes. That includes a hat-trick in their 4-1 Supercopa victory against bitter rivals Barcelona along with one of their two goals in their 2-0 Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.
Those goals helped Madrid land a treble of the La Liga, Supercopa de España and the UEFA Champions League. However, his season with Brazil ended with disappointment this summer at Copa America 2024 despite a brace against Paraguay early in the group stage he did not score again in the tournament as Brazil were knocked out in the Quarter-Final on penalties by Uruguay.
Vinicius is a typical Brazilian footballer oozing confidence, flair and flamboyance with everything he does on the pitch. Despite not hitting the heights with Brazil at the Copa America, I think due to matters with the other contenders for the prize he is still the most likely winner.
Rodri – 7/4
Second in the betting for the Ballon D’Or per the latest odds at BoyleSports is Rodri at odds of 7/4 that the Man City and Spanish footballer has a 36.4% chance of success after being CUT from 13/2 following Spain's Euro 2024 win.
It’s no hyperbole to say that defensive midfielder Rodri (28) is the one irreplaceable player in the Guardiola system with Man City with him being the best single-pivot midfielder in the world. City simply rarely loses with him in the starting side (aside from the FA Cup Final) which means it’s very fortunate he featured in 50- matches in all competitions last season scoring 9 goals and assisting 14.
City had another flying season even if they didn’t hit the heights of their treble the previous season winning the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. With Spain, he has another chance of silverware Sunday in the Euro 2024 Final and goes into it knowing they haven’t lost a game with him in the side in 470 days.
Ahead of the Euro 2024 Final I said that for Rodri to stand a chance, Spain had to win the and they duly delivered. However, despite their victory and his subsequent odds CUT 7/4 is far too short for someone taken off at half-time due to injury.
11/2 would be a value bet but 7/4 isn't worth backing by my reckoning.
Jude Bellingham - 5/1
The thirdfavourite to win the Ballon D'Or next October is Jude Bellingham at odds of 5/1 suggesting the Real Madrid and England man has a 16.7% chance of winning the trophy.
Questions were asked last summer whether Jude Bellingham could live up to the “hype” following his Madrid move. But as it transpired people needed not be too worried after he took Spain by storm with 23 goals and 13 assists across his 42 matches in all competitions for Madrid or 0.88 goal contributions per 90 minutes. One of the standout moments for Real was his late Barca brace to earn Madrid a 1-2 win last October.
Like his teammate Vinicius, those goals and performances helped Madrid dominate with successes in the La Liga, Supercopa de España and the UEFA Champions League. Unlike Vinicius though he has the opportunity to land international silverware Sunday in the 2024 Euro Championship Final and despite an underwhelming run to the final, he scored crucial goals against Serbia (the winner) and Slovakia (the equaliser to send the game to extra time).
Ahead of the Euro 2024 Final I said that backing Bellingham comes down to whether you believe England can beat Spain on Sunday and if they did I made him the favourite with or without a goal.
Spain won though and with that means the end of his chances for the trophy.
Best Bet: Vinicius Junior @ 5/4
