In their opening fixture at Euro 2024, they fell to a narrow 0-1 loss against the French where they received plaudits for their performances despite the defeat. Key Players To Watch
Marcel Sabitzer – Austria
In the absence of Alaba through injury Marcel Sabitzer (30) had the task of stepping up the leadership role as Captain at Euro 2024 this summer.
In their opening defeat against France, he had a quiet game but was one of their star performers in their victory against Poland. Sabitzer was a constant threat having 5 shots, winning 1 penalty, completing 2/2 of his dribbles and 23/33 of his passes, always trying to create opportunities.
That was followed by another strong showing against The Netherlands where he tipped off another brilliant performance scoring the 80th minute winner.
Arda Güler – Turkey
Ahead of the tournament much was expected of the Turkish teenage sensation (19) who was coming off a club season with Real Madrid who despite having injury issues still scored 7 times in 13 games.
Arda has a huge future ahead of him though the dynamic attacker can do it all dribble, shoot, pass and stole the show with his stunner in their opening game victory against Georgia.
He will be crucial again in this game, especially with Calhanoglu out through suspension.
Austria v Turkey Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Austria 2-1 Turkey
Austria have arguably been the team of the tournament thus far with Spain the only side who could feel a little hard done by with that claim. But their performances have been strong and consistent since the beginning.
Turkey live with the constant tag of being perennial dark horses for each Euro Championship, but their chances are flying even more under the radar on this occasion with this young Turkish side doing the business so far in the tournament.
I fancy Austria to put in another strong performance and continue their historic run in the competition.
Best Bet: Austria Win+ Under 3.5 Goals @ 17/10
