Arsenal v PSG Preview
Arsenal’s Form
Mikel Arteta has certainly improved Arsenal since he was appointed as Head Coach in December 2019 with them becoming a more consistent side, particularly in the league-challenging City. However, though he’s won two FA Cups (2014 and 2015) and two Community Shields (2014 and 2015) it’s come time that he lands one of the big two trophies in the eyes of many i.e. the Premier League or Champions League.
Arsenal have started the 24/25 season strongly, their 4-2 win against Leicester at the weekend means they’re level on points with 2nd placed Man City only behind them by a goal difference of +1 and 1 point behind early season league leaders Liverpool. Across the Cup in the third round of the EFL Cup, they hammered Bolton 5-1 and in the opening round of the Champions League, they drew 0-0 with Atalanta.
The Gunners arguably got away with it against Atalanta on the opening night and arguably require a win here to not put further pressure on their early-season Champions League credentials.

PSG’s Form
PSG have dominated domestically for longer than a decade winning 10 of the last 11 Ligue 1 titles. However, with their blindingly obvious riches, superstar signings and more money pumped into the club than the average country, the one thing that alludes to them is success on the European stage and especially in the Champions League. Mbappé departed in the summer though, so it was always going to be interesting to see if the team gelled better in his absence than when he was at the club.
Even without Mbappé, PSG have picked up where they left off in 23/24 with an unbeaten start to this season in Ligue 1 they currently top the table having won 5 and drawn 1 of their opening 6 league games. In their opening Champions League game, they were very fortunate though with only a late Gazzaniga own goal in the 90th minute being the difference between them and Girona for a 1-0 win.
PSG in a sense are a working example that throwing money at something until it sticks will only bring you so far. However, they remain a force and a dangerous side and sooner rather than later I still think European success will come to Paris.

Key Players To Watch
Jurrien Timber – Arsenal
While he signed from Ajax for Arsenal in July 2023 for an initial fee of £38 million, it would be a slow start to his career with the club after suffering an ACL injury on his right knee in just his third game for the club.
However, he’s been fit for the start of this season and has played in 81% of game minutes already becoming an integral part of the starting side for not only his versatility, and his defensive aptitude but also his attacking threat from full-back.
Zaire-Emery – PSG
In a club which garners so much attention for the countless cash spent on their squad building and the superstar signings brought in to try and finally land a European trophy. It takes a special talent to break through from the club’s academy and Zaire-Emery (18) has already played 80 games for the club which gives them a more authentic feel as a club.
Zaire is there on merit though despite being still a teen he’s already one of the best midfielders around passing, ball carrying and creating chances from the centre of the park.
Arsenal v PSG Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Arsenal 1- 1 PSG
Arsenal have shown the grit and resilience early in this season which is typical of a side that can win trophies (whether they maintain that remains to be seen). A win in this game would go very far to suggest their fightback ability is sustainable.
PSG in the absence of Mbappé present us with an interesting case study on whether a more cohesive side can be successful in Europe rather than one which mismatches bigger names together for a FIFA-style side is a better strategy.
Both sides are strong, but both have plenty to improve, and I can see this being an entertaining draw.
