15 runners contest Saturday’s Group 1
Notable Speech is now just 5/2 (from 4/1) with BOYLE Sports for Saturday’s July Cup as racing fans continue to weigh-in on the former Guineas winner making a successful step into the sprinting division.
The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old was a 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner at three, but has failed to make the same impact over a mile this season, finishing fourth in the BOYLE Sports Lockinge Stakes at Newbury before a third placed finish behind Docklands in the Queen Anne.
Punters however are hopeful that a drop to 6 furlongs will spark improvement in the strong travelling son of Dubawi, making him the best backed horse in the race since he was supplemented at a cost of £36,000 on Monday.
Another Godolphin owned colt, Spy Chief (16/1), was also supplemented by John & Thady Gosden having finished second in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, with a total of 15 runners set to take part in the feature of Newmarket’s July Meeting.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“The July Cup is always a spectacle and Notable Speech really adds an extra bit of intrigue to the race. We saw Alcohol Free take the drop down in trip in her stride in 2022 and plenty of punters are backing Charlie Appleby’s horse to follow in her footsteps this year.”
