England need to 'sweep away all the old boys' ahead of their Six Nations clash with Ireland this Saturday according to Andy Goode.

The former England fly-half has doubled down on a social media post claiming that England need to drop senior players to regain a competitive edge.

Goode took to X to claim a “big mindset shift” was needed following England’s defeat to Scotland at Murrayfield, which left Steve Borthwick’s side seven points adrift of Ireland in the Six Nations table.

England Have 'Exciting Young Players'

Speaking exclusively to BoyleSports, Goode said:

We started well in the first 15 minutes in Scotland and then we just disappeared. There was no leadership, there was no structure to our game plan and you compare us to Ireland, where everyone knows what they're doing.

Over the last four or five Six Nations we've beaten Wales and we're beating Italy, but...

"we struggle against Ireland, struggle against France and keep losing to Scotland, which never happened in my day."

There were a few beers involved in the Tweet. But we've got exciting young players and sometimes you just need to get the broom out and sweep away all the old boys.

Building For The Future

"If we're trying to build for the next few years, I think we need to see Marcus Smith at 10, not George Ford."

Joe Heyes at tighthead prop potentially, Will Stuart, these guys. Not Dan Cole, who is 37. He's been a brilliant servant, but we're just waiting for him to say ‘I've had enough now'.

Andy Goode's England v Ireland Prediction

Ireland have been phenomenal over the last couple of years in this tournament. Then there was a big build up to the World Cup and maybe some overconfidence in the Ireland team, that's the crumbs of comfort that I'm trying to hold on to as an Englishman, because...

"I can see Ireland coming to Twickenham and winning pretty convincingly the way they're playing."

*Ireland are 2/9 to beat England in Twickenham per the latest Six Nations odds at BoyleSports.
