Andy Goode teamed up with BoyleSports to preview England’s Six Nations clash with Wales this weekend. BoyleSports will Pay Out Early if your side goes 17 points ahead at any stage.
The former England fly-half has urged Head Coach Steve Borthwick to approach their final Six Nations game against Wales this weekend with an attacking mindset.
England are best placed to take advantage if France slip up on the final weekend, but are likely to need a victory against Wales in Cardiff to keep alive their faint hopes of a first Six Nations crown since 2020.
Wales v England Preview From Andy Goode
Speaking exclusively to BoyleSports, who makes England 8/1 shots to win the Six Nations, Goode said: “The longer the week goes on, I fear it’s a bit of a banana skin for England.
“Although they’ve lost 16 on the spin and they had a shocker to start off, this Wales team has improved throughout the tournament in terms of their output and attacking intent. Gareth Anscombe has been a safe hand for them at fly half since he’s come back in and with Thomas at 12 and Llewellyn at 13, they have real ball carriers.
“We have to expect a lot of passion and physicality from Wales. The jersey means so much to them but when they play England, it goes to another level. England will have to impose themselves; we saw Scotland go to the channels a lot and get success there. That’s not something naturally that England do, although we did it against Italy.
Worry of Borthwick’s ‘Narrow-minded Game Plan’
“What I don’t want Steve Borthwick to do is to go back into his shell into a kicking game and ball the life out of Wales, and beat them that way. We want pace and intensity, but playing in the right areas in a controlled manner too. I think he might go there with a narrow-minded game plan, but I want him to go with an expansive one. Give the boys the freedom to attack and play with width - that’s how you take this Wales team apart.
“If there’s ever a game where Wales want to get off this losing run, it’s England at home and the atmosphere is going to be amazing. I’m a little bit nervous. England have to go out with the attacking intent they showed against Italy. We’re going to miss Ollie Lawrence, but hopefully England can go there and imprint a really attacking game on them.”
England’s Six Nations Chances
France are the overwhelming 1/10 odds-on favourites to be crowned Six Nations champions, with England rated an 8/1 long shot.
