Ballygunner Book Date In Munster Club Hurling Final

Ballygunner are coming in for increasing support to win the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship again after booking a date in the Munster final at the expense of Na Piarsaigh.

First half goals from Keith Dempsey and Conor Boylan helped give the Limerick men a five-point half-time lead in the titanic clash at the Gaelic Grounds, but the nine-in-a-row Waterford champions hit back in the second half to emerge 2-20 to 2-15 winners.

Massive Favourites To Win Munster Club Hurling Final

The victory means the Gunners have strengthened their grip on favouritism for the Munster championship after BoyleSports slashed them into hot 1/10 shots to get the better of Clare champions Ballyea, who edged out 14-man St Finbarr’s by the narrow margin of a point in Ennis.

Ballygunner have also been trimmed into 13/8 from 7/2 for a second consecutive All-Ireland crown, with Ballyhale Shamrocks still rated 11/10 favourites to go one better than last year and claim a third All-Ireland title in four attempts.

Derry’s Slaughtneil meanwhile have been backed into 14/1 from 22/1 in the betting for the Tommy Moore Cup after a 2-24 to 0-11 rout of Portaferry kept them on course for a third consecutive provincial title in Ulster.

Last Year's All Ireland Club Hurling Champions

Ballygunner won the most recent edition of the All Ireland Club Hurling Championship earlier in this calendar year. They beat Kilkenny club Ballyhale Shamrocks by a single point in that final on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-19. Last year's finalists are once again fancied as the top two in the betting to win the title this year.

Last year's win for Ballygunner was the first ever All Ireland Hurling title for the Waterford club. The Munster men beat Derry's Slaughtneil in the semi-final in last season's competition to book their spot in the final. They won that final thanks to an incredible finish which saw Ballygunner's Harry Ruddle strike the sliotar low to the net with the last play of the game.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:

Ballygunner needed to dig deep to see off Na Piarsaigh and it’s a victory that has clearly cemented their credentials for another All-Ireland.

"They are really eating into Ballyhale’s lead in the betting now and at 13/8 from 7/2, a growing number of punters clearly believe we have a very close All-Ireland race on our hands.”
