Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle Preview

Three Card Brag – Albert Bartlett Favourite 10/3

Trained by Gordan Elliot, the six-year-old comes into the race as the betting favourite off the back of a fine display on the 25th of January in Fairyhouse. On that day he won over a 2-mile 3 ½ furlong trip, beating the four-horse-field by an impressive twelve lengths.

That victory ended a run of two races without a win where he had been narrowly beaten by a neck in Naas and by 1.25 lengths in Navan. This horse's record from five runs is three wins, one second and one-third meaning it is a consistent sort.

Three Card Brag is currently 10/3 to win the Albert Bartlett for Gordon Elliott and team.

Corbetts Cross – Albert Bartlett Second Favourite 4/1

The six-year-old gelding and the second favourite in the betting market is Corbetts Cross. He is trained by Emmett Mullins, the nephew of leading trainer W-P Mullins. This E Mullins horse was previously trained by Eugene M O'Sullivan and had won two on-the-spin before changing stables to Emmet Mullins.

He got off to a great start after the stable change too, in his first time out for the Mullins team the gelding maintained his winning form on the 26th of February at Naas over a 1-mile 7 ½ furlong trip. The six-year-old won by a head on that outing to make it three wins in a row.

Another consistent sort across the two trainers, the horse's career record from seven runs stands at four wins, one second and one-third. Corbetts Cross is currently 4/1 to win its fourth race in a row.

Embassy Gardens – 11/2

The slightly older seven-year-old, trained by leading trainer W-P Mullins, comes into the race on the back of a career-best effort. On the 22nd of January in Thurles Embassy Gardens won by a mammoth thirty-five lengths over the 2-mile 7-furlong trip.

This was the gelding's first win since its very first outing back on the 27th of December 2021. The seven-year-old horse boasts two wins and one second from five races but could this be a timely return to winning form as Cheltenham approaches?

Embassy Gardens is 11/2 to win the Albert Bartlett for W-P Mullins and team.

Hiddenvalley Lake – 7/1

The Henry De Bromhead trained six-year-old is likely to be ridden by 2021 Champion Jockey Rachael Blackmore in this race. The chestnut gelding returned to the track after 67 days away on the 16th of February when he was narrowly beaten 0.5 lengths over the 3-mile-trip in Clonmel to Monty’s Star.

The De Bromhead prospect had previously won two races on-the-spin in Naas and Cork prior to that outing in Clonmel. Of the top four in the betting market Hiddenvalley is the least experienced on track with only three runs to date, as mentioned earlier he has come out victorious twice and second on the other occasion.

Hiddenvalley Lake is 7/1 to win the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle.
