Cheltenham Hurdle 2

As the Cheltenham Festival roars towards its climax on Gold Cup day, the JCB Triumph Hurdle once again serves as the electrifying curtain-raiser for the juvenile stars of tomorrow.

With last year's shock 100/1 winner Poniros still fresh in the memory and new rules now barring hurdles debutants – the ante-post market is heating up around a clutch of impressive trial winners, promising a vintage renewal.

2026 Triumph Hurdle Favourites & Horses To Watch

Mange Tout Heads The Triumph Hurdle Market

Mange Tout made it into our 10 horses to follow for this jumps season and has since established himself as a strong market leader in the 2026 Triumph Hurdle odds. The half-sister to multiple Grade One winner Impaire Et Passe arrived at Gordon Elliott’s yard with a big reputation, having already scored by 15 lengths over timber at Compiegne.

She was solid rather than spectacular when obliging as an odds-on shot at Down Royal but then made a far more significant impact by claiming a Grade Three Fairyhouse contest. Mange Tout kept on strongly to get the better of Willie Mullins-trained favourite Narciso Has , another highly-touted French import with an April Auteuil success on his CV.

Elliott, who has won the Triumph with Tiger Roll and Farclas, accepts there is plenty of time for other contenders to emerge but enthusiastically declared: “She’s as good as we have at the moment.” He added: “It was a good performance and I’m absolutely delighted…she put lengths between them very quick from the last to the line.”

Mullins Triumph Mounts

Mullins Out To Maintain Triumph Monopoly

Narciso Has can be backed at 16/1 to gain revenge at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but Mullins has other hopefuls in his all-conquering yard, as he targets a fifth straight Triumph success. Vauban, Lossiemouth and Majborough struck for the Closutton maestro before 100/1 stunner Poniros led home the Mullins battalion last term.

Proactif is currently his shortest-priced inmate in the Triumph Hurdle ante-post betting at 12/1, with the son of Masked Marvel having scored by six lengths in an 18-runner Auteuil contest in mid-September before switching to Ireland.

Other French imports among those fancied for the Friday opener are Henry de Bromhead’s Matin Midi Et Soir and the Nicky Henderson-trained Manlaga (both 12/1). The latter, who could bid to give Seven Barrows a record-extending eighth win in this race, is a half-sister to smart chaser Martator and scored at Auteuil in March.

Minella Study The North's Big Chance?

Can Minella Study Strike For The North?

Leopard Du Berlais (12/1) has so far remained in France and completed a hat-trick for David Cottin when comfortably making all in a Grade One event in mid-November. Of those who have already make their mark in Britain, Macktoad (12/1) made light of testing conditions when striking decisively at Sandown.

The Moores won the same contest in 2019 with Goshen, who memorably had the Triumph Hurdle at his mercy the following spring before crashing out at the final obstacle. Josh Moore said: “He’s controlled that race today from the front and coped with conditions, but he’s a good mover, so I’d like to think he’ll cope with better ground as well.”

Countrywide Flame was the last Triumph hero trained in the north of England back in 2012, but Northumberland handler Adam Nicol is dreaming of ending that drought with 14/1 hope Minella Study. He maintained his unbeaten record over hurdles in emphatic fashion at Cheltenham’s December meeting, and Nicol beamed: “He’s going from strength to strength, he has speed, and he travels.”
