It is hard to argue with The Giant starting as favourite for this clash on the back of an outstanding 5-1 drubbing of 2024 champion Luke Humphries but the big Dutchman will face a different kind of foe here.
After a few years of struggling to reach peak fitness, Anderson has looked lean and mean during this tournament, rekindling memories of his back-to-back title triumphs in 2015 and 2016 .
Van Veen certainly won’t be able to bully the Flying Scotsman like he did Humphries and there have been few tougher competitors than Anderson down the years if he can stay in contention early on.

Whereas Van Veen had a psychological advantage over Cool Hand Luke following four straight head-to-head wins in 2025 , Anderson has held the upper hand in this rivalry apart from a Players Championship reversal in September .
If the 55-year-old can hold his throw until the halfway point, we just feel all of Anderson ’s experience can help the old warrior outbattle his still relatively raw opponent at the business end of this contest.
