It is never too early to start looking at Grand National contenders and there have already been some notable performances from potential Liverpool heroes this season.
The world’s most famous steeplechase has been dominated by Irish raiders in recent times, with seven of the last nine winners being based on the Emerald Isle .
However, there has been a mixture of favourites and outsiders claiming Aintree glory, so we’re covering both categories in our early 2026 Grand National betting tips.
Will an Irish horse win Grand National again (7 of last 9)?

I Am Maximus
I AM MAXIMUS @ 12/1
The ultra-impressive 2024 winner went agonisingly close to making it back-to-back victories last year, chasing home stablemate Nick Rockett as Willie Mullins saddled the first three home.
That second stellar Aintree effort represented a return to form after a moderate campaign but I Am Maximus has already shown his well-being this term.
He kept on well to split Affordable Fury and Galopin Des Champs in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown , despite being slightly hampered by the winner at the final fence.
“I thought he was unlucky,” said Mullins . “Given a different path from the second last, he might have gone very close. He ran a cracker.”
Connections can’t expect any favours from the handicapper, but his course record means I Am Maximus will be hard to keep out of the first four.
Myretown
MYRETOWN @ 20/1
Lucinda Russell is the only handler to have challenged the recent Irish monopoly, taking the trophy back to Scotland with One For Arthur in 2017 and Corach Rambler in 2023 .
Now training alongside Michael Scudamore , she has another hot prospect in lightly-raced nine-year-old Myretown .
He was having just his ninth start under rules when romping home by 11 lengths in last season’s 24-runner Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival , a race previously won by Corach Rambler .
Myretown took a tumble at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance but was soon reported none the worse for that experience and he remains a progressive type with plenty of scope for further improvement.
Jordans
JORDANS @ 33/1
Whether it be the Melbourne Cup on the Flat or jump racing’s biggest handicaps, Joseph O’Brien has proven incredibly adept at mapping out a specific target for his horses.
Jordans fits the profile of being another stable inmate earmarked for a major success at some point in the future and we’re hoping his turn comes sooner, rather than later.
His novice chasing campaign concluded with a fine fifth in the Plate at Cheltenham and an eye-catching second to Caldwell Potter in Grade One company at Aintree .
Jordans will need to brush up his jumping if tackling the National fences but O’Brien ’s decision to start out this term with a couple of warm-up spins over hurdles suggests he thinks this seven-year-old has a mark worth protecting.
