The 2025 Gold Cup Champion is currently seen as having a 20% chance of retaining the Cup at Cheltenham in 2026.

Form

The seven-year-old trained by Gavin Cromwell for JP McManus shocked the Cheltenham crowd to beat Galopins Des Champs by six lengths last week for fifth career success from fifteen races.

Verdict

It was a case of the third time is the charm for Inothewayurthinkin to beat Galopins Des Champs at Cheltenham 2025 but the horse is young at seven so has big claims in 2026.

Odds

The 2025 Ryanair Chase winner Fact To File is currently priced as the second favourite for the 2026 Gold Cup at odds of 6/1.

Form

The eight-year-old trained by WP Mullins for JP McManus has never been outside the first three with six wins, four runner-up finishes and one-third place.

Verdict

Controversially didn’t run in the Gold Cup this year, 2026 will surely be the time we see  Fact To File in a Cheltenham Gold Cup, whether it can win it is a harder question.

Galopin Des Champs

A two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner (2023 and 2024), the horse is seen as having a 14.3% chance of avenging its defeat 2025 defeat at next year's festival.

Form

The Superstar horse is trained by WP Mullins for owner Mrs Audrey Turley and has a record of fourteen wins, four runner-up results and two third-place finishes from twenty-three races.

Verdict

Never looked sharp at the 2025 festival when finishing six behind Inothewayurthinkin, it would be some training performance to come back and win at next year’s festival.

Fastorslow

The fourth favourite for the 2026 Gold Cup is Fastorslow with odds of 14/1 giving him an 8.3% chance of success.

Form

The nine-year-old is trained by Martin Brassil and the horse has a consistent record on the track with five wins and six runner-up finishes from seventeen outings on the track.

Verdict

Fastorslow is winless in four outings at Cheltenham but retains an ability and pedigree that must be respected.

Grey Dawning

Rounding off the top of the betting market is Grey Dawning at odds of 25/1 suggesting a 7.7% chance of Gold Cup success in 2026.

Form

The eight-year-old is trained by Dan Skelton for owner Robert Kirkland who has a career record of nine victories, three runner-up finishes and two third-place runs from sixteen meetings on the track.

Verdict

Grey Dawning has been both bridesmaid and champion at the Cheltenham Festival, but this race looks a little beyond its ability based on current running.
