2026 Cheltenham Champion Hurdle Betting

2026 Champion Hurdle Favourite – Constitution Hill

Despite a fall at the 2025 Champion Hurdle, Constitution Hill the favourite for the 2026 Champion Hurdle. The Nicky Henderson star made an uncharacteristic jumping error in the race, which brought him and jockey Nico de Boinville down and ended his chances of winning the most prestigious crown for hurdlers for a second time. Thankfully, both Constitution Hill and Nico de Boinville are said to be fine after the fall. Nicky Henderson has said the horse will head to Punchestown next.

Kopek Des Bordes – Joint-2nd Favourite

Michael O’Sullivan Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Kopek Des Bordes, who won the 2025 festival opener in style, is next up in the betting at 5/1 which makes him the joint 2nd favourite for the 2026 Champion Hurdle. The Willie Mullins star looks like the real deal and, while raw, is uber-talented and seems to be improving with every run.

Other Champion Hurdle Contenders

The back-to-back Mares’ Hurdle winner Lossiemouth follows Constitution Hill closely in the betting and joins Kopek Des Bordes on odds of 5/1 for 2026 Champion Hurdle glory. There was a lot of controversy about the decision for the mare to dodge the Champion Hurdle in the week leading up to the race and opt for the Mares Hurdle route.

Obviously, she did the business by winning that race for the second year in a row but connections will surely be wondering what could have been after seeing both Constitution Hill and State Man fall in the day 1 feature. Surely next year she goes for the big one and with plenty of ability and the mares allowance is a live contender for the prize.

The New Lion is next up in the betting and has serious claims with odds of 6/1. The Dan Skelton-trained horse boosted his claims for next year’s Champion Hurdle by winning the Turners Novices’ Hurdle at this year’s festival.

State Man can be found further out in the betting at odds of 12/1. He looked to be nailed on for the 2025 Champion Hurdle as he raced well clear of the chasing pack approaching the final hurdle. However, a fall at the last obstacle dashed his chances.
