Following a major shake-up in the 2026 Champion Hurdle odds over the past month, everything looks to be (literally) falling into place for Lossiemouth to land the big one this season.

With State Man sidelined through injury and the future of fellow former winner Constitution Hill in doubt, the road to Cheltenham looks clear for Willie Mullins ’ star mare.

What would you do with Constitution Hill next?

Lossiemouth is already a three-time Festival scorer, having followed up victory in the 2023 Triumph with two smooth strikes against her own sex, and is now a firm favourite in this market.

Stepping up from Mares’ Hurdle success to Champion Hurdle glory has proved a winning formula before, with Honeysuckle showing the way.

Before that, connections of Lossiemouth would have pulled off the same double but for Annie Power falling at the final flight when well clear in the race for females.

Cheltenham Champion Hurdle Betting Market Analysis

Lossiemouth Leads Market

Return Win Rated ‘Fantastic Performance’

Many felt Lossiemouth should have gone for the Cheltenham Festival day-one feature last term but Mullins preferred to play it safe, with unfortunate stablemate State Man subsequently slipping up with the race at his mercy.

To be fair to the champion trainer, Lossiemouth's campaign hadn’t gone to plan, being beaten by Constitution Hill at Christmas and then taking a heavy fall in the Irish Champion Hurdle.

However, she came good in the spring, storming clear at Cheltenham and then adding another Grade One triumph to her tally in the Aintree Hurdle.

2026 Champion Hurdle Winner Prediction

A wide-margin victory at short odds in Punchestown's Morgiana Hurdle on her reappearance and other setbacks elsewhere have surely paved the way for a Champion Hurdle challenge this time around, though.

Reflecting on Lossiemouth's comeback success, Patrick Mullins – assistant to his father – told Racing TV : “I thought it was a fantastic performance…she’s gone solid fractions and kept going all the way to the line – she didn’t let up anywhere.”

Fighting Fifth Fallout

Newcastle Blunders Cloud the Issue

The Fighting Fifth at Newcastle was expected to prove an informative affair but instead put forward far more questions than answers.

It would take a brave man to back Constitution Hill to come back from a third crashing fall in his last four outings while The New Lion also took a tumble.

Would a Constitution Hill 2026 Champion Hurdle victory be racing's greatest comeback?

Dan Skelton's charge, who was unbeaten as a novice last term, was still travelling strongly at the head of affairs when coming down two out, though, and remains second favourite in the Champion Hurdle odds.

“I think he’d have won but that is only my opinion and he didn’t stand up,” said the trainer. “It’s just frustrating and not a great start to the year.”

That left Golden Ace to pick up the pieces once more, just as she did at Cheltenham in March, and Jeremy Scott's mare is 12/1 to defend her crown.

With plans for Constitution Hill put on hold, Nicky Henderson's Sir Gino has come in for support in the ante-post Champion Hurdle betting, along with the Gordon Elliott -trained Wodhooh , who chased home Lossiemouth at Aintree and recently made a winning reappearance at Ascot.

Supreme Novices’ Hurdle runner-up William Munny may also emerge as a strong contender but Lossiemouth definitely looks the one to beat at this stage.
