While certainly not the rocket from boxes that her mother was, Sunshine Sioux is no slouch from boxes, consistently clocking 3.46/347 in recent weeks. He also tends to stay on strongly, as he did in his 29.98 semi-final success last Saturday, which was his third win on the bounce.

Verdict

A progressive youngster with big claims , I still think he will need a career-best effort to win the Plate Final.

Majical Major only debuted on the track last June. I, a 28.23 success at Shelbourne Park connections, made the bold decision to enter him into the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby, only 5 races into his career. Though he finished 5th in the opening round, he’s found his feet in this competition, winning 2/3 rounds.

Verdict

Though only 3rd last week, he’s learning on the job, and I expect him to come on from the run and land his first major success in what looks to be a promising career ahead.

Next up is Harlequin Gee Up for trainer Scott Phelan, who landed this race last year with Elite Josh, who was priced at 8/1. An even bigger shock may be needed this time around if the odds are anything to go by.

Don’t let the price fool you, he remains a dog with great pace who could be a likely leader of this final, different to how Elite Josh won last year from behind.  The July 2023 dog has only 16 races run and should have plenty of improvement in him in the coming weeks and months.

Verdict

Will have to find more than a few spots to land this final, but if he can go up early like he usually does, he has a chance.

Despite his inconsistency from boxes at times, if/when this dog gets it right, he has the capacity to both start and stay.  Last week, he got it right, winning in 29.45, coming 3 lengths ahead of Grouchos Hoffa.

Verdict

Ahead of the final, I’m not sure any dog has as big an upside as Carrick Scholsey , and at odds of 5/2, he’s a great value bet.

This early-pacer seems to be getting quicker and quicker away from traps with every passing week, having posed a 3.38 from boxes last week, though the 550-yard trip might be a bridge too far for his forte at the moment.

Verdict

Has an undeniable pace, and the draw will suit him down to a tee , but he will need to stay stronger to win this race.
