The Australian Open takes place every year in January at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. It is one of two Grand Slams played on a hard court surface with the other being the US Open.

The favourite for the 2024 Australian Open is Novak Djokovic at odds of EVS  according to the latest tennis odds at BoyleSports. Those odds imply that Djokovic has a 50% chance of winning this year’s Australian Open.

The Serbian has won this event 10 times including the most recent iteration of the competition in 2023. That total of 10 Australian Open titles makes Djokovic the most successful player in the history of the event with 4 more titles than Roger Federer (6).

Despite turning pro back in 2003, Djokovic dominated the tennis tour in 2023 ending the year with a record of 56–7 (88.9% win rate), and 7 calendar titles including the Australian Open, French Open, US Open and Tour Finals. His 2023 Australian Open success came in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 and 7-6 against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of his all-time and by many as the greatest of all-time. He stands alone at the top of the Grand Slam titles list with 24 titles to his name. That’s 2 more than Rafael Nadal and 4 more than Roger Federer.

Dkokovic opened up his tournament campaign in the First Round with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 and 6-4 victory over  young qualifier Croatian qualifier Dino Prižmić.  That was followed by a Second round success 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 and 6-3 over  Australian Alexei Popyrin who is playing on home soil.

In the Third round, he had a straight sets victory over 3oth seed Tomás Martín Etcheverry 6-3, 6-3 and 7-6 to earn his place in the Fourth round against 20th seed Adrian Mannarino.

Victory at this event would extend his phenomenal Grand Slam record and he comes into this event on the back of at the ATP World Finals where he defeated Sinner in straight sets 3-6 and 3-6. 

Carlos Alcaraz

Australian Open Titles: 0

The second favourite for the 2024 Australian Open is Carlos Alcaraz at 11/4 per the latest tennis betting odds at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that Alcaraz has a 26.7% chance of winning his first Australian Open this January.

Young Spanish sensation and world number 2 Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from this event last season due a right leg injury.

Despite being only 20-years-old the Spaniard has become a multiple time Grand Slam winner with his US Open success in 2022 and Wimbledon success in 2023. He boasts a career Grand Slam record of 41-9 (82%). Alcaraz is expected to be the heir to the tennis throne when Djokovic retires or begins to decline as he proved with his win over the Serbian in the 2023 Wimbledon Final.

There has been debate in tennis circles for years about how the sport would fare when the likes of Federer (now retired), and Nadal (impending retirement), leave the pro tour. However, the sport has found its newest superstar in Nadal’s fellow countryman.

Alcaraz  opened up his tournament campaign in the First Round with a straight sets victory over from Grand Slam semi-finalist Richard Gasquet 6-7, 1-6 and 2-6.  That was by a tough Second round game against a two-time tour winner Italian Lorenzo Sonego 4-6, 7-6, 3-6 and 6-7.

In the Third round he is drawn against Chinese player Shang Juncheng.

Following his ATP Semi-Final defeat against Djokovic  3-6 and 2-6,  Alcaraz knows victory at the 2024 Australian Open would bring his Grand Slam haul to 3 titles and would mean he would significantly improve on his best-ever performance at the event which was a third-round defeat in 2022 (before this event). 

Jannik Sinner

World Ranking: 4

Australian Open Titles: 0

Next up in the betting for this tournament is  Jannik Sinner at odds of 4/1. Those odds suggest that Sinner has a 13.3% chance of winning this year’s Australian Open.

The 22-year-old, despite not winning a Grand Slam since turning pro in 2018, boasts multiple Quarter-Final appearances (3) French Open (2020), US Open (2022), Australian Open (2022) and (1) Semi-Final appearance at Wimbledon (2023).

2023 was a brilliant year for Sinner as he reached his first Grand Slam semi-final, won his first Masters 1000 title, became Davis Cup champion, was an ATP Finals runner-up and rose to number 4 in the world rankings and most recently reached the ATP World Finals where he defeated lost to Djokovic  in straight sets 3-6 and 3-6. 

Sinner has been brilliant in this tournament so far failing to drop a single set in the opening three rounds.  In the First round he beat former US Open Quarter-Finalist Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 7-5 and 6-3 before beating a younger Dutchman and qualifier  Jesper de Jong 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2

The Third round was a similar story beating World Number (26) Sebastián Báez 6-0, 6-1, 6-3 to set up an intriguing Fourth round encounter against World Number (15) Karen Khachanov.

The Italian is another young star who looks poised to soon secure his first Grand Slam. He has a career record of 190–74 (72%) to go with his 10 tour titles.

Daniil Medvedev

Australian Open Titles: 0

Fourth favourite for this tournament is Daniil Medvedev who has been given odds of 10/1.  Those odds imply that Medvedev has an 9.1% chance of winning the 2024 Australian Open.

Despite never winning a Grand Slam, Medvedev has had success at this event in recent years. The Russian made the final in 2 of the past 3 years at Melbourne Park, going closest in 2022 when he pushed Rafael Nadal to 5 sets before losing the decider 7-5.

Medvedev is coming into this season and event following a solid 2023 campaign. He ended the year with a record of 66–18 (78.6%) and 5 Calendar titles. That saw him rise from 7th in the world rankings to 3rd. At the most recent ATP World Series he was knocked out at the Semi-Final stage 6-3, 6-7 and 6-1 vs Jannik Sinner.

Daniil opened his tournament with a victory over Frenchman Térence Atmane but it wasn't easy losing the first set against him but his opponent eventually had to retire at two sets to one down following cramp finishing  7-5, 2-6, 4-6 and 0-1.

In the Second round he again faced a tough test losing the first two sets against Emil Ruusuvuori before recovering to win 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 6-7 and 0-6 to book a Third round place against World Number (27) Félix Auger-Aliassime.

The 27-year-old is part of the new tennis generation boosting a career record of 333–136 (71%) and 20 career titles already. Medvedev will be expected to add plenty more along with at least a few majors before he finishes up his career so perhaps this is the one that gets the ball rolling.

Grigor Dimitrov

World Ranking: 13

Australian Open Titles: 0

Further out in the betting is Grigor Dimitrov  who has been given odds of 25/1 to land his first  Grand Slam the 2024 Australian Open. Those odds imply that he has a 3.8% chance of success.

Since turning pro in 2008 he has been one of the most consistent players on tour with 9Career Titles and a record of 420–273(60.6%)

However, despite that consistency on court, he has never been able to turn his best into Grand Slam winning tournaments t. His best finish at this event came in 2017 when he reached the Semi-Final.

Other than that, he has reached the Fourth round of the French Open in 2020 and 2023, Wimbledon in 2014 and the US Open in 2019.
