It commences with a Group Stage format where 32 players are split into eight groups of four. All group matches are best of nine legs. After three games, the top two in each group qualify for the knock-out stage The matches get longer as the tournament progresses:

‘Cool Hand Luke’ has made four appearances at the Grand Slam of Darts the first two times he failed to get out of the group finishing third in both 2020 and 2021.
In 2022 he reached the Semi-Finals of the competition but this time around he comes off the back of his 2023 Grand Slam of Darts success after he defeated Rob Cross in the final 16-8.

Verdict
Luke Littler is a player of tremendous ability and is a real threat here.

“The Green Machine” is a three-time winner of the Grand Slam of Darts winning the event in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He was a beaten finalist in 2012, a Semi-Finalist in 2018 and 2019 and a Quarter-Finalist in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Last year his second-round elimination was his worst finish in the event since he did the same in 2013.

Van Gerwen has had a disappointing 2024 season not winning a single major tournament with his best finish being when he reached the final of the World Matchplay and the Cazoo Masters.
He was a Semi-Finalist in both the Premier League of Darts and World Series of Darts though he was eliminated in the second round of the European Championship, World Cup of Darts, the fourth round of the UK Open and the first round of the World Grand Prix.
Verdict
MVG has yet to record a major trophy this season which he’s done every year since 2012, but given that we're already in November he is quickly running out of time.
Gary Anderson
Odds
The fourth favourite to win the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts is Gerwyn Price at odds of 9/1. Those odds suggest that Ross Smith has a 10% chance of winning this event.
Grand Slam of Darts Pedigree
Gary Anderson has never won this event with best finishes being when he was runner-up in both 2011 losing 4-16 to Phil Taylor and in 2018 when he was defeated 13-16 by Gerwyn Price.
He was a Semi-Finalist in 2007. 2008 2016 and 2017 a Quarter-Finalist in 2010 and 2019 and other than that it’s usually early round exits.

Michael Smith has won this event once when he defeated Nathan Aspinall by a 16-5 scoreline. He reached the Semi-Final in both 2015 and 2021 and was a Quarter-Finalist in 2014, 2019 and 2020. However, last year he failed to get out of the group stage finishing third.
