The four-year-old A Jeriko Du Reponet has a faultless career record from his short racing career but such has been his impression on track for trainer Nicky Henderson that he is already considered one of the favourites for the Supreme Novices Hurdle.

The horse returned to action at Newbury after a 265-day break after his maiden PTP victory back in March. In that first outing over hurdles he gave a great account of himself, coming three and a quarter lengths ahead of second-placed King William Rufus.

Jeriko proved that first win at Newbury was no fluke when he returned later in December to top the 5-horse field by 1 and ¾ lengths, justifying odds-on favouritism of 2/5.

Cheltenham Form

Jeriko Du Reponet is yet to run at Cheltenham.

Verdict

Jeriko Du Reponet looks a promising horse and is a worthy favourite after his two wins over hurdles at Newbury in December.

A Dream To Share

The second favourite to win the 2024 Supreme Novices Hurdle is A Dream To Share at odds of 8/1. Those odds imply that A Dream To Share has a 11.1% chance of winning the 2024 Supreme Novices Hurdle.

The five-year-old A Dream To Share boosts a faultless career record of five wins from his first five races while being trained by John E Kiely. There has since been a slight change in the trainer's name with the horse now trained by John E & Thomas Kiely.

The horse was most recently a Non-Runner last October in Punchestown due to a Stone Bruise. His last victory came at the same track back in April, winning over the two-mile and a half furlong distance and coming three and three-quarter lengths ahead of runner-up Tullyhill.

A Dream To Share is a perfect 5/5 over the course of his career so far. However, all those runs came in bumper races so it will be interesting to see how he performs when he makes his debut over hurdles.

Cheltenham Form

A Dream To Share already has Cheltenham winning form in his young career having won the Weatherbys Champion Bumper back at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival last March in just his fourth-ever race.

Verdict

A Dream To Share looks a really special sort. The only question mark is how he will go over hurdles as he is yet to make his hurdling debut.

Next up in the betting at 10/1 to win the 2024 Supreme Novices Hurdle is Firefox. Those odds imply that Firefox has a 9.1% chance of winning the 2024 Supreme Novices Hurdle.

The five-year-old trained by Gordon Elliot has a very strong record of 4 successes and 1 runner-up finish from his 6 outings on track. His last race came at Fairyhouse earlier in December 2023 where he beat twenty-three other horses including runner-up Ballyburn by two and a half lengths.

That victory at Fairyhouse was Firefox’s fourth straight win which capped off an unbeaten 2023 for the gelding.

Firefox is yet to run at Cheltenham.

Verdict

I like the look of this horse's progressive and consistent form having won his last four races. Definitely not without a chance.

Willmount

Odds

Next up is Willmount who is a 22/1 chance to win the Supreme Novices Hurdle at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival. Those odds suggest that Willmount has a 4.3% chance of 2024 Supreme Novices Hurdle glory.

The five-year-old won its opening PTP race and then two outings on the official track for trainer Neil Mulholland before switching to the Nicky Henderson stables last October. He swiftly returned to the track following a 250-day break by winning in Newbury over the two-mile-and-a-half furlong distance, beating twelve other horses with closest challenger Beny Nahar finishing a staggering thirteen lengths back.

Willmount’s last outing on track came at Newbury on December 30th where he disappointed before being eventually pulled up with three obstacles still to jump. That performances has seen this horse drift out in the odds and leaves questions marks as to his hurdling credentials.

Willmount is yet to run at Cheltenham.

Verdict

Can’t be written off yet but his poor performance at Newbury in December does give cause for concern.

Mirazur West

Odds

Further out in the betting for the 2024 Supreme Novices Hurdle is Mirazur West at 25/1. Those odds imply that Mirazur West has a 3.8% chance of being crowned the next Supreme Novices Hurdle winner.

Form

The five-year-old is trained by WP Mullins for a certain JP McManus which should immediately have eyebrows raised.

The horse won its very first outing on track at Naas back in March, winning over the two-mile-and-a-half distance beating seven other horses including runner-up He’s My Hero by four and a half lengths.

That win marked a promising return to the track for a horse which fell in its maiden PTP outing when it had a 2l advantage before falling at the final fence.

Most recently gave a decent account of himself at Leopardstown on St. Stephen’s Day with a 2nd place finish, 6 lengths behind winner King of Kingsfield who topped a 23-horse field. However, connections will be disappointed that the gelding didn’t win after going off as a 5/6 SP favourite.

Cheltenham Form

The horse has never run at Cheltenham.

Verdict

Another horse to watch especially given it is trained by Mullins for a certain JP McManus.
