2024 Cheltenham Champion Hurdle Betting Favourites

Constitution  Hill– 4/9

The early favourite for the 2024 Champion Hurdle is the 2023 winner of this event,  the Nicky Henderson-trained 6-year-old gelding and the son of Blue Bresil and Queen Of The Stage, Constitution Hill.  He has a perfect career record of seven victories from seven outings on track.

The horse's most recent outing on track was at Aintree back in April where he won the Aintree Hurdle winning the six-horse field over the two-mile and a half trip coming three lengths clear of closest challenger Sharjah.

That has been the horse's sole outing since his impressive victory in the 2023 Champion Hurdle where he cruised to success.  Comfortable throughout, Nico de Boinville kicked for home with two fences to go and blew away the chasing pack with Irish hope State Man the closest challenger nine lengths back in second. Following the race jockey de Boiville said "What a horse, just absolutely delighted," while Henderson called the horse “extraordinary”.

Constitution Hill looks unbeatable right now and even at odds of 4/9, it’s hard to make the case of backing against him for the 2024 Champion Hurdle.

Impaire Et Passe – 5/1

The second favourite is the five-year-old gelding trained by W P Mullins son of Diamond Boy and Brune Ecossaise, Impaire Et Passe.  He is another unbeaten horse with five victories from five excursions on the track.

The horse's most recent outing on track was at Punchestown at the end of April where he won the Grade (1) Novice Hurdle beating four other horses and coming 7.5 lengths ahead of the closest challenger High Defnition to land the spoils and continuing his perfect record.

It should be noted that as well as having a perfect record, he has won each of his races comfortably by a cumulative total of 44.5 lengths. He is one of the quickest horses in training.

A lightly raced horse with serious class and credentials at 5/1 he could prove a shrewd challenger to Constitution Hill yet.

State Man – 7/1

The third favourite for the race is the six-year-old gelding, another contender trained by WP Mullins this time the son of Doctor Dino and Arret Station, State Man.  He has a career record of seven victories and two runner-up finishes from his ten outings on the track.

The horse's most recent run came at Punchestown at the end of April where he put in another impressive showing beating five other horses coming 3 lengths ahead of runner-up Vauban to win the Punchestown Champion Hurdle. State Man was runner-up in this race last time coming 9 lengths back of winner Constitution Hill ending the horse's six-race winning streak.

State Man is currently 7/1 to avenge his defeat from the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and under the guidance of WP Mullins it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.

Marine Nationale– 20/1

The fourth favourite is the six-year-old trained by Barry Connell and the son of French Navy and Power Of Future..  Marine Nationale is another horse unbeaten from his time on the track passing the winning line five times on five occasions.

His last outing came at Cheltenham back in March in the Supreme Novice Hurdle winning the fourteen-horse field coming 3.25 lengths ahead of runner-up Facile Vega. That win would make it the horse's fifth success from five races in which it has won by a cumulative 22.25 lengths on four race-courses Punchestown (2), Killarney, Fairyhouse and most recently Cheltenham.

Barry Connell is both the Trainer and Owner of this impressive gelding and while the horse remains unbeaten it still needs to improve considerably to trouble those at the top of the market he is currently seen as having a 20/1 chance.
