2024 World Grand Prix Darts Betting Favourites
Luke Littler
Odds
The 2024 BoyleSports World Grand Prix favourite is Luke Littler at odds of 10/3. Those odds imply that Littler has a 23.1% chance of winning this year’s title.
World Grand Prix Pedigree
This is Luke Littler’s Grand Prix debut.
Major Tournament Form
Luke Littler started 2024 with plenty of promise, reaching the Final of the PDC World Championship and the Quarter-Final of the UK Open. He also won the Premier League this season defeating Luke Humphries 11-7 in the final and the World Series of Darts Finals when he beat Michael Smith 11-4.
The biggest disappointment for Littler to date this year came when he was knocked out of the World Matchplay at the first-round stage. For the Grand Prix draw he was seeded (2) in the PDC ProTour Qualifiers and will play Rob Cross in the first round.
Verdict
The 17-year-old sensation is a worthy favourite here. He is currently in fantastic form with him most recently winning the World Series of Darts Final against Michael Smith.
Luke Humphries
Odds
The second favourite to win the 2024 World Grand Prix is Luke Humphries at odds of 7/2 per the latest darts betting odds at BoyleSports. Those odds suggest that Humphries has a 22.2% chance of winning it all in Leicester this October.
World Grand Prix Pedigree
‘Cool Hand Luke’ has made three appearances at the World Grand Prix Darts. In his first two outings, he didn’t have tremendous success with a 2nd round finish in 2021 and a first-round finish in 2022. However, last year he bucked that form by going all the way to the final before beating former champion Gerwyn Price 2-5 in the decider.
Major Tournament Form
Luke Humphries is arguably the in-form player in the darting world right now having won the PDC World Championship, World Matchplay and World Cup of Darts in 2024. He also reached the final of the UK Open and Premier League.
His only poor performance came in the Masters where he was eliminated in the second round and most recent result was a Quarter-Final finish at the World Series of Darts where he was eliminated 9-10 by Michael Van Gerwen.
As #1 in the PDC Order of Merit he was drawn against Stephen Bunting in the first round.
Verdict
It might come as a surprise to many that Humphries isn’t the favourite for this event given the year that he has had. What wouldn’t be a surprise would be if he were to go on and successfully defend his crown at the Morningside Arena.
Michael van Gerwen
Odds
Next in the betting for the 2024 World Grand Prix Darts is Michael van Gerwen at 5/1. Those odds imply that Michael van Gerwen has an 16.7% chance of being crowned the next World Grand Prix winner.
World Grand Prix Pedigree
“The Green Machine” is the second most successful player in the tournament’s history with 6 victories coming in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2022 and one runner-up finish in 2015 from his 13 appearances at the event. Last year at this event he suffered a shock second-round exit, losing 2-3 against Chris Dobey.
Major Tournament Form
Van Gerwen has shown plenty of promise that he can get back to his best in 2024 but has yet to cross the winning line having reached the Final of both the World Matchplay and the Masters as well as Semi-Final results in the Premier League, World Series of Darts and a Quarter-Final in the PDC World Championship.
His two lines of poor form in 2024 was a fourth round exit at the UK Open and second round exit at the World Cup of Darts. It's only a matter of time before he wins a big competition again but will first need to defeat Daryl Gurney in the first round to get his tournament going.
Verdict
MVG has yet to record a major trophy this season which he’s done every year since 2012 but he is running out of time this year. Given his talent and prolific record at the event 5/1 appears fair value.
Gerwyn Price
Odds
The joint fourth favourite to win the 2024 World Grand Prix Darts is Gerwyn Price at odds of 12/1. Those odds suggest that Gerwyn Price has an 7.7% chance of winning this event.
World Grand Prix Pedigree
Gerwyn Price has won the World Grand Prix on one occasion with that win coming in 2020 when he defeated Dirk van Duijvenbode 2-5 in the final. The Welshman was also runner-up in 2021 and again last year in 2023. Apart from those finishes, he made the quarter-finals in 2018 and the semi-finals in 2022.
Major Tournament Form
It’s been a terrible tour for Price in the major tournaments, only reaching the fourth round of the UK Open, the third round in the World Championship, the second round of the World Matchplay and 7th in the Premier League.
His form hasn't improved recently either in the World Series of Darts he was knocked out in the second round 3-6 by Daryl Gurney. In the first round of this event he has been drawn against Danny Noppert.
Verdict
Price is playing well below his ability right now and I wouldn’t consider him a backable prospect for this tournament. His win and other final appearances in the Grand Prix will make him a tempting proposition to some punters though.
Gary Anderson
Odds
The joint fourth favourite to win the 2024 World Grand Prix Darts is Gary Anderson at odds of 12/1. Those odds suggest hehas an 7.7% chance of winning this event.
World Grand Prix Pedigree
Despite an illustrious darting career where there is very few trophies he hasn't won, one of the major competitions which alludes him is the World Grand Prix with his best finish being in 2016 when he finished runner-up to Michael Van Gerwen losing 5-2.
He is a four time Quarter-Finalist at the event and a one time Semi-Finalist also. However, he has not been beyond the second round since his Quarter-Final in 2020.
Major Tournament Form
Anderson has had a poor 2024 season being eliminated in the World Championship in the fourth round, UK Open in the sixth round and a first round elimination in the World MatchPlay.
The sole line of form he has in major tournaments was his Semi-Final result at the World Cup of Darts. Gary will play Michael Smith in the first round of the competition.
Verdict
Playing well below the standards expected of him and so is unlikely to trouble those at the top of the market. However, if he can catch fire against Smith in the first round you never know how it could go.
Michael Smith
Odds
At 16/1 to win the 2024 World Grand Prix Darts is Michael Smith. Those odds imply that Michael Smith has a 5.9% chance of winning the 2024 World Grand Prix Darts.
World Grand Prix Pedigree
Michael Smith had never really performed well in the World Grand Prix until last year’s semi-final appearance. Before that, he had never been beyond the second round from 2012-2022 (DNQ in 2013).
Major Tournament Form
Smith has had a mixed bag of form in 2024 with his sole major success coming in the World Cup of Darts. He also reached the semi-finals of the World Matchplay and the Premier League. Other than that he reached the second round in the Masters, the fourth round of the PDC World Championship and the fifth round of the UK Open.
Most recently though is form looks brighter with him reaching the final of the World Series of Darts before losing comprehensively in the final 11-4 against Luke Littler.
Verdict
Smith is another who has the game to win a major title but has flattered to deceive for the majority of 2024 and in this event. Avoid.
