Favourites

Ballymac Sports - 2/1

The red-hot favourite for the 2024 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is Ballymac Sports Owned and Trained by a certain Liam Dowling, a man who is no stranger to success across both codes in  “Greyhound Racing” and “Coursing”.

Ballymac Sports is a worthy favourite having already claimed victories on two of the toughest fields in the country Castleisland and Abbeyfeale, He booked his his place for Clonmel at Castleisland Coursing winning the Derby Trial Stake (as part of a treble on the day for the Dowling team)  From the off it was clear that he was a special prospect, winning every course with breathtaking early pace before finishing strongly to leave his competition for dust winning his final in a red-hot 10.46 clocking on par with the Cup Dogs for his trial stake victory  before winning the Corn Na Féile Derby

Ballymac Sports is a full sister of BoyleSports Oaks  favourite Ballymac Callaway which preview can be viewedhere

White and Brindle January 2022 whelp, is bred in the purple being the son of multiple-time winner and 2020 Irish Champion Dog Winner Boylesportsmagic along with Ballymac Amber who is another multiple-stake winner.

Ballymac Ciunas 5/1

The second favourite for the 2024 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is another member of the famous Ballymac kennel, this time Ballymac Ciunas.

Ballymac Ciunas booked his place for Clonmel with a “powerhouse” display at Abbordorney last October. With the manner of victory being so impressive along with the kennel's serious credentials. The "One Eyed Wonder"  proceeded to show up well in the Corn Na Féile before being withdrawn for the Semi-Final

The White and Brindle dog again unsurprisingly bred in the purple, Ciunas is the son of Kyle Mozart who was a multiple coursing winner including the Champion Stakes at Clonmel back in 2018. Ballymac Enya won the 2019 Irish Coursing Oaks too.

There will be far from “Ciunas” from the crowd when this dog gets motoring!

Mulboy Wolfman 12/1,

Fourth favourite for the 2024 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is Mulboy Wolfman who is owned and trained by John McCall.

Mulboy at some early exchanges in New Ross and Dungannon trial-stakes, before being withdrawn after a grueller in his Quarter-Final at Old Kilcullen. Mulboy would go on to book his place for Clonmel at East Donegal Coursing winning the Derby Trial Stake, with keen-eyed watchers immediately earmarking the dog as well above “average” in terms of coursing prowess.  However the dog will have t0 survive arguably the "tie of the round" against Comeovernow first!

The Dark Brindle dog is another who is the son of the multiple-time winner on the field Kyle Mozart, with his mother being Mullboy Billyjean a fawn bitch who is the daughter of Newinn Wonder.

What a smashing dog by the way!!

Alekhine 14/1

Fourth favourite for the 2024 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is Alekhine which is trained by Thomas O'Donovan for Gavin Johns and Brian Duffy.

Alekhine was beaten first on debut at Bandon & Careys Cross in late November, but booked his Clonmel Coursing ticket a fortnight later in North Kilkenny, a trial stake known to bring out high quality Clonmel Contenders. The dog improved on the clock throughout the trial stake and could be poised for a big battle in the second round against Imtellingyounow.

The January son of Newinn Wonder and Knockout Pearl is another to keep in your notepad for the Derby!

Capablanca 16/1

Fifth favourite for the 2024 BoyleSports Irish Coursing Derby is Capablanca which is another trained by Thomas O'Donovan for the ownership duo of Patrick Joy and Brian Duffy.

Capablanca was beaten first time out at Clonmel & Kiksheelan before earning the Clonmel ticket at Johnson & Urlingford. Capablanca was well supported in Abbeyfeale too but came undone by Ballymac Sports by a two length margin. This dog should relish the Clonmeol

Like Alekhine the dog is a January son of Newinn Wonder and Knockout Pearl, bred in the purple for Derby success!

This dog should relish the Clonmel field and shouldn't be discounted by any means.
