2023 Women's World Cup Betting Favourites

Spain Women - 7/4

The favourites to win the 2023 Women's World Cup are Spain at odds of 7/4 as we reach the semi-final stage of the tournament.

Spain are at their third ever Women's World Cup this summer with their first only coming as recently as their Group Stage appearance in 2015. Their second came at the most recent tournament in 2019 where they reached the Round of 16.

The Spaniards entered this tournament in excellent form with seven wins and just one defeat (coming narrowly 3-2 against Australia) in 2023.

Coach Jorge Vilda's win ratio of 76% makes him the country's most successful coach but he remains a controversial figure. He is currently in dispute with 15 Spanish players who have made themselves unavailable for selection due to his selections, tactics, training sessions, management of injuries, and the negative atmosphere preventing the side from reaching its potential.

Spain won their opening game 3-0 against Costa Rica and their second match 5-0 against Zambia. However, a poor performance in their third and final match meant they lost to Japan 4-0 and finished second in the group.

In their first game of the knockouts they faced Switzerland beating them emphatically 1-5 to announce themselves as second favourites following the elimination of USA.

2019 Women's World Cup finalists the Netherlands awaited them in the quarter-final in what would be a close fought game. La Roja needed extra-time but were able to advance after a stunning solo effort from Salma Celeste Paralluelo Ayingono in the second period of extra-time.

Spain now face Sweden in the 2023 Women's World Cup semi-finals, a game which they go into as the favourites at Evens.

England Women - 15/8

The second favourites in the betting to win the 2023 Women's World Cup are England at odds of 15/8.

England has qualified for the Women's World Cup six times (1995, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, 2023) and failed to qualify for three competitions (1991, 1999, 2003). They have reached the quarterfinals on three occasions; losing to Germany in 1995, the United States in 2007 and France on penalties in 2011.

In 2015 England won bronze for the first time under Mark Sampson when they beat Germany in the play-off and came fourth in 2019. The Lionesses entered this tournament with indifferent form by their standard with three wins, three draws and one defeat. That defeat against Australia in April was Sarina's first loss as England Head Coach.

The English had a slow-start to this tournament with 1-0 victories over Haiti and Denmark. However, they came alive in their final group stage came hammering China 6-1 and announcing themselves as worthy tournament favourites.

In the Round of 16 they were very unfortunate to overcome Nigeria 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 result AET. The winning penalty was scored emphatically by Chloe Kelly (who could have played for Ireland).

The Lionesses played Colombia at the quarter-final stage of this World Cup. They went behind late in the first half but were able to grab an equaliser deep in stoppage time of the first period to bring them level going into the break. Then, in the 63rd minute, it was Alessia Russo who got the all important goal to set the Lionesses up with a semi-final date against Australia.

You can back the Lionesses at 15/8 to build on their Women's Euros 2022 win by winning the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Australia Women - 4/1

Next up in the betting to win this year's Women's World Cup is Australia who come in at odds of 4/1.

The Aussies are of course the co-hosts of this tournament and as a result have had the benefit of plenty of home support en route to a semi-final spot in this Women's World Cup.

Australia opened up their 2023 Women's World Cup campaign with a tough fought game against Ireland. They were only able to manage 2 shots on target over the course of the 90 minutes but a penalty early in the second half was enough to see them secure a 1-0 victory.

The second group game didn't go as well for the Aussies. They went ahead late in the first half but their opponents Nigeria answered with three straight goals to earn a 3-2 victory and leave Australia needing a result in their last game to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

The Matildas would face reigning Olympic Champions Canada in that final group game. Despite the Canadians dominating possession it was the Aussies who were clinical in front of goal as they put four past Canada to secure a 4-0 win which advanced them to the knockout stages.

Denmark awaited them in the Round of 16. Once again the opposition side had more of the ball but Australia were clinical in front of the posts. They scored two goals from their three shots on target for a 2-0 victory and a spot in the quarter-finals against France.

The quarter-final against the French ended 0-0 despite 36 attempts at goal throughout the course of the game between both teams. Penalties were needed to decide the winner and it was the Matildas who held their nerve to book a Women's World Cup Final against England.

Sweden Women - 9/2

The last remaining team in the betting to win the 2023 Women's World Cup is Sweden who have been installed at odds of 9/2. That makes Sweden the least likely winner of this tournament according to our odds makers. With that said, there is very little separating all four of these remaining sides in the betting.

Sweden began their campaign with a come from behind win against South Africa. They went 1-0 down early in the second half but strikes from Rolfo in the 65th minute and a late winner from Ilestedt in the 90th minute earned them a 2-1 victory.

Next up for the Swedes it was Italy. This was a game they absolutely dominated and in the process announced themselves as a real threat for this World Cup. Sweden blitzed the Italian goal with 21 shots over the course of the game and Italy couldn't withstand it as Sweden ran out 5-0 winners.

The final group game came against Argentina. This was a closely contested game but the Swedes got the opener in the 66th minute courtesy of Blomqvist and another goal in the 90th minute put them into the knockout rounds with a perfect 9 points from their group games.

Their reward for winning the group? A Round of 16 tie with defending World Cup Champions USA. Despite their pedigree the US looked like a team that were vulnerable after a number of poor performances in the group stages of this tournament. The Swedes held out for 90 minutes and then extra-time as they forced penalties with a 0-0 draw. Sweden were more clinical from the spot kicks and advanced to the quarter-finals.

Their quarter-final saw them face a heavily fancied Japan side. That didn't bother the Swedes though as they converted goals either side of half-time to put themselves two goals up. Japan weren't able to overcome that deficit despite a goal in the 87th minute from Honoka Hayashi.

Sweden will now face tournament favourites Spain in the first 2023 Women's World Cup semi-final with a place in the final on the line.
