In this post you can find our 2023 Women's World Cup Group G preview along with our predictions and odds for this summer's tournament.

Teams In Women's World Cup Group G

Sweden

Peter Gerhardsson took over after Pia Sundhage following UEFA Women's Euro 2017 and has since guided Sweden to third place at the 2019 World Cup and a Silver medal finish at the 2020 Summer Olympics.Sweden qualified for this tournament by topping their qualifying group, with twenty-two points to make the tournament for the ninth time. That group included the likes of Ireland, Finland, Slovakia and Georgia.Sweden has one friendly left before the World Cup commences and has had a poor 2023 with a record of two draws, one defeat and one win. The Swedes will be hoping to put that aside and better their runners-up finish from 2003.My three Swedes to watch out for in this tournament are captain Caroline Seger (38), Stina Blackstenius (27) and Fridolina Rolfö (29).

South Africa

Desiree Ellis was appointed interim manager of the South Africa women's national football team in 2016 after Vera Pauw resigned following the team's group stage exit at the 2016 Olympics. Ellis was appointed head coach in February 2018.South Africa qualified for their second-ever World Cup by winning the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations and will be hopeful of bettering their Group Stage exit in 2019.They have had a poor 2023, though, with two defeats, one draw and one win. They still have one friendly game left against Costa Rica before the World Cup begins. The players to watch out for in this squad are Noko Matlou (37), Refiloe Jane (30) and Hildah Magaia (28).

Italy

Milena Bertolini, in August 2017, was appointed as the head coach of Italy. Since then she has led Italy to qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup which ended a twenty-year absence from the competition. In that tournament they equalled their best appearance with their first quarter final berth since 1991.Italy qualified for the 2023 Women's World Cup by topping their group with twenty-seven points. That qualification group included Switzerland, Romania, Croatia, Lithuania and Moldova. In 2023 their form has been hit and miss with two wins, two defeats and one draw. The Italians tend not to score or concede many in their matches.Their squad lacks a lot of experience so I could see them becoming unstuck. Nevertheless, I would watch out for keeper Laura Giuliani (30), Valentina Bergamaschi (26) and Valentina Cernoia (32).

Argentina

Germán Portanova has been in charge of the Argentina Women's national side since 2021. He coached this squad in the 2022 Copa América Femenina, guiding the team to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup following their third-place finish.Argentina are making their fourth appearance at a World Cup but have never been beyond the Group Stage. The Argentines have had a strong 2023 with four wins and one draw and have one game remaining against Peru before their World Cup commences. My three to watch are Captain and Keeper Vanina Correa (39),  Estefanía Banini (33) and Mariana Larroquette (30).

Player to Watch

Arsenal striker Stina Blackstenius (27) is coming off a big club season and will be expected to lead the charge for her national team at this World Cup.Blackstenius has already tallied a record of 28 goals in 90 appearances for her country and will be expected to add to that total in this tournament.Signs are good, too, with Stina's 0.65 Non-Penalty xG good enough to be in the 94th percentile of all forwards.

Women's World Cup Group G Prediction

1st - Sweden2nd - Argentina3rd - Italy4th - South AfricaStar-studded Sweden have genuine top-class talent sprinkled across their team from back to front, and even at 1/2, could prove to be value; they are winning this group.Second spot is interesting, with Italy expected to take it, but I can foresee a little shock here with Argentina pipping them while I expect South Africa to be pointless at the bottom of the table.Click Below For All Our 2023 Women's World Cup Group G Odds2023 Women's World Cup Group G Odds
