We have a 2023 Women's World Cup Group B preview along with predictions and odds in a group that includes the Republic of Ireland.

Teams In Women's World Cup Group B

Australia

Tony Gustavsson has been the Australian head coach since being appointed in September 2020 following 20 years of experience. This included working in men's football as well as being an assistant for the United States women. He has managed 35 games so far, with Australia winning 16, drawing 5 and losing 14 for a win rate of 45.71%.Australia qualified for this tournament as co-hosts with New Zealand and are coming into this tournament in strong form with four wins which included a 0-2 win against one of the tournament favourites, England. However, interestingly, they also lost 0-1 to a Scottish side Ireland beat to qualify for the World Cup.Australia will be looking to get beyond the quarter-final for the first time, and crucial to those efforts will be Steph Catley (29) and attacking duo Caitlin Foord (28) and Sam Kerr (29).

Republic of Ireland

Vera Pauw was appointed as Ireland's head coach on September 4 2019, after 20 years of coaching, which included roles at the likes of Scotland and The Netherlands. Ireland qualified for the World Cup with a dramatic 0-1 playoff victory over Scotland back in October, and they ended the year with a 4-0 victory against Morocco.Their form in 2023 has been interesting, they earned a 0-0 draw against China back in February and were extremely competitive against the United States in April, eventually losing out twice, 2-0 and 1-0. However, they earned a 3-2 victory over Zambia in their most recent fixture. This will be a historic moment for Ireland, and don't be surprised if they provide a few scares to the "bigger teams". Denise O'Sullivan (29) and Katie McCabe (27) are genuinely World Class talents and Courtney Brosnan (27) in net has been inspirational throughout for Ireland. If they all turn up you never know...

Nigeria

Randy Waldrums was appointed the head coach of Nigeria women's national football team on October 5, 2020, only three years after turning down the role following 31 years of experience, including within the US College System and with Trinidad Tobago Women.Nigeria qualified for the World Cup due to their fourth-place finish at the 2022 Africa Nations Cup, and at the World Cup will be looking to reach the quarter-final for the second time.In 2023 they have two defeats and three wins, including a 0-03 win against New Zealand. Critical to their performances will be Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala (28) and Rasheedat Ajibade (23) with Captain  Onome Ebi (40).

Canada

Bev Priestman was appointed in October 2020 as the head coach of Canada women's national soccer team after roles at Canada underage and as an assistant with England. Bev would go on to lead them to the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics on August 6, 2021.Canada qualified for this competition as the 2022 CONCACAF Championship runners-up, being beaten by the USA in the final, and now Canada will be looking to better their best-ever World Cup appearance, which was fourth place in 2023.Their form in 2023 has been poor, losing to the United States, Japan and France, but they also had a 0-2 victory over Brazil which shows their pedigree. Crucial to their performances will be Ashley Lawrence (28), and Jessie Fleming (25), alongside record appearance older (323) and goal-scorer (190) Christine Sinclair (40).

Player to Watch

Katie McCabe (27) If Ireland are to stand a chance of getting out of the group stages in their first-ever World Cup campaign, they will require the talismanic talents of their Captain, Katie McCabe. When describing McCabe, you run out of superlatives, but to put it short, she is arguably Ireland's only World-Class player of any gender (and maybe Denise O'Sullivan), and her all-action attacking and defensive ability will be a joy to watch in Australia.

Women's World Cup Group B Prediction

1st - Australia2nd - Canada3rd - Ireland4th - NigeriaAustralia, accompanied by home advantage and one of the best forwards in the world, their Captain Sam Kerr they, should have far too much for the rest of the Group. However, I am expecting a bloodbath for the second qualifying position, with all three sides staking a claim for the second spot.As an Irishman, I am obviously hoping Ireland can pull off a historic achievement and claim second, but I just think the Canadians will have too much experience for Ireland on this occasion.Click Below For All Our Women's World Cup Group B Odds2023 Women's World Cup Group B Odds
