In this post we take a look at the latest 2023 FAI Cup odds and give our predictions for this Friday night's quarter-finals.

The 2023 Sports Direct FAI Cup is the 103rd edition of the Republic of Ireland's figure-head national cup competition. The winner of the competition earns automatic qualification for the 2024–25 UEFA Europa Conference League.

The current FAI Cup holders are Derry City having won the competition in 2022. The Candystripes beat Shelbourne in last year's final but with both sides eliminated from this year's competition we are assured a different champion.

Preview

Cork City have struggled in the league this season which sees them in a relegation battle as we enter the final stretch of the League of Ireland season. Despite this poor league form, the Leesiders now find themselves in an FAI Cup Quarter-Final thanks in large part to some favourable draws.

Cork City's Path To The FAI Cup Quarter-Final

First Round – Treaty 0-2 Cork City

Second Round – Cork City 3-0 Waterford

This game against Wexford will be Cork City's third consecutive match against a First Division side in this year's FAI Cup. This means that Cork could remarkably find themselves in a semi-final without beating a fellow Premier Division side.

This is their best chance to return to the FAI Cup Final for the first time since 2018 when they lost 2-1 to Dundalk. That was in fact the fourth final in a row between the two sides with Cork City winning in 2016 and 2017.

Wexford are having a flying season in the League of Ireland First Division. They currently occupy the final playoff spot, four points ahead of Longford. That is a spot they missed out on last season by eight points.

Wexford have also had a fortunate cup run having not had to play a team from either the League of Ireland Premier Division or First Division en route to this quarter-final. This side have the opportunity to reach the FAI Cup semi-final for the first time in their history if they can shock Cork City this Friday night.

Galway can be gotten at 7/4, Dundalk are 5/4, while the draw is 9/4.

Preview

Galway are winning the League of Ireland First Division on a canter and it’s only a matter of time before their imminent promotion into the Premier Division for next season. However, the double remains on following receiving fortunate draws again.

The westerners have won this competition on one occasion which came back in 1991.

First Round – Galway United 4-1 Bangor Celtic

Second Round – UCD 1-5 Galway United

Dundalk have had an inconsistent league season. With seven games remaining it’s looking very unlikely that they return to Europe via the league this season. However, the cup specialists have a real chance of earning that European spot by winning the FAI Cup.

First Round –Dundalk 1-0 Shamrock Rovers

Second Round –Bray 0-1 Dundalk

Prediction

Galway 1-2 Dundalk

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Drogheda are 9/5, Bohemians are 23/20, and the draw is 23/10.

Preview

Drogheda are looking very sure of Premier Division safety as they find themselves eight points clear of Cork City in the relegation playoff spots and three ahead of Sligo Rovers with seven games remaining. Their focus can turn to the FAI Cup where they have a real chance of reaching a semi-final.

Drogheda's Path To The FAI Cup Quarter-Final

First Round – Drogheda United 2-1 Sligo Rovers

Second Round –Kerry 0-1 Drogheda United

Bohemians are fourth on the table and despite falling off a little from their table-topping start, they’re still in the hunt for Europe in the league. If they can combine that with an FAI Cup victory it would certainly be considered a progressive season for Bohs.

Bohemians Path To The FAI Cup Quarter-Final

First Round –Bohemians 1-0 Shelbourne

Second Round –Bohemians 6-0 Rockmount

Prediction

Drogheda 2-1 Bohemians

Finn Harps v St Patrick’s Athletic

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Finn Harps can be gotten at 16/1, St Patrick’s Athletic are 1/8, while the draw is 5/1.

Preview

It’s been a season of transition and redevelopment for Finn Harps. The Donegal side currently sit second last in the League of Ireland First Division and are unlikely to move out of that spot for the remainder of the season. However, due to the luck of the draw and taking their chances Finn Harps have a free-hit in this one for a place in the FAI Cup semi-finals.

Finn Harps Path To The FAI Cup Quarter-Final

First Round – Kilbarrack United 0-1 Finn Harps

Second Round –Finn Harps 5-0 Skerries Town

St Patrick’s Athletic have had an excellent season since Jon Daly came in as manager following the departure of Tim Clancy. Unfortunately from a Pats perspective, a defeat in the league last time out to Shelbourne means their unlikely title charge seems even more unlikely.

On the bright side, the Inchicore based side have a real chance of FAI Cup success as they head into this quarter-final as massive favourites in the betting to advance to the semi-final stage.

St Patrick's Athletic's Path To The FAI Cup Quarter-Final

First Round – St Patricks Athletic 1-2 Longford Town

Second Round –Derry City 0-0 AET (3-4 Penalties) St Patricks Athletic
