Manchester City - 10/11

Pep Guardiola’s side are favourite for the competition which would be the first Champions League title. It would also be only their second-ever European trophy the first coming in the 1969-70 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

They’re unbeaten in this year’s competition starting in the Group Stages where they had four wins and two draws scoring fourteen goals and only conceding two in a group which had Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Copenhagen.

They were drawn v RP Leipzig and after a 1-1 draw away from home in the first leg it seemed they were in a competitive tie, but that was not to be as they dismantled them 7-0 at home in the second leg.

After being drawn v German Giants Bayern Munich in the Quarterfinal many expected that City would receive their first “real” test in the competition but that was not to be! The Citizens overcame Bayern Munich 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night and, barring a complete collapse in Germany, their place in the Semi-Final v either Real Madrid or Chelsea seems secure.

Pep Guardiola has been criticised in the past for “underachievement” in the competition so he will be looking to set the record straight this season and with the help of competition top-scorer Erling Haaland who has 11 goals already, this could be the year Manchester City finally win the Champions League and perhaps even a treble in the process?

Real Madrid - 9/2

Unlike Manchester City, Real Madrid has an illustrious history in European Competitions. Taking just the European Cup/Champions League, Real Madrid hold the record for the most victories, having won the competition fourteen times, including the inaugural edition.

In fact, since the 2013-14 season, they have won the competition on five of the nine occasions. During the Group Stages, they were drawn against RP Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk and Celtic topping the group with four wins, one draw and one defeat which came in a 3-2 away defeat from RP Leipzig. During the Group Stages, they scored fifteen goals and only conceded six meaning they won the group.

In what was seen as a glamour tie in the next round they made light work of Liverpool beating them 5-2 in Anfield in the first leg before finishing the job in the second leg with a 1-0 win at home.

Following their 2-0 first-leg home triumph v Chelsea they will feel that they have one foot into the Semi-Final v Manchester City in what many expect could be the final before the final with the winners of that clash likely to win the entire tournament.

Despite their poor league form, Real have a squad moulded around Champions League winners like Modric, Benzema and Kroos along with exciting young talents like Vinicus and Camavinga. It will take an excellent side to get past this Madrid team.

Napoli - 7/1

The runaway Serie A leaders have been seen by many as the “Dark Horses” for this season’s Champions League and while they could still be considered that, they’re now also third favourites for the competition.

Napoli topped a group which included Liverpool, Ajax and Rangers following their record of five wins and one defeat which came v Liverpool in a 2-0 defeat at Anfield but finished top due to their superior goal difference of +14 to Liverpool’s +11. In the Round of 16, they were handed a favourable draw v Frankfurt beating them 5-0 comfortably on aggregate.

Napoli were drawn v AC Milan in the Champions League Quarter-Final and were handed a 1-0 defeat in the first leg despite AC Milan being reduced to 10 men and Napoli having more possession and shots.

Napoli will still fancy their chances at over-turning that result in the second leg and booking their place in the other Semi-Final which will have either Inter Milan or Benfica.

Inter Milan - 7/1

Inter Milan were drawn in what many people saw as the “Group of Death” with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzeň but managed to qualify from their group ahead of Barcelona and Plzeň as runners-up with a record of three wins, one draw and two defeats scoring ten goals and conceding seven.

They were handed a favourable Round of 16 ties vs Porto overcoming them 1-0 on aggregate after winning the first leg at home 1-0 and completing the job with a 0-0 draw away from home in the second leg.

Perhaps the luck of the draw has flipped in their favour after their initial Group of Death experience as they were drawn v Benfica in the Quarter-Final and won their away leg 2-0 away from home on Tuesday with goals from Barella in the 51st minute and a Lukaku penalty on the 82nd minute.

They will look to book their place into the Semi next week, Inter’s last success in the competition came under Jose Mourinho back in 2010. Could this be their year again?

AC Milan - 12/1

Another team with a rich European history has won the Champions League seven times.  This year despite their poor league form (currently fourth) they’re another team who has grown into the Champions League after arguably slightly favourable draws as well.

AC Milan came second behind Chelsea in their Champions League group which also included Red Bull Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb finishing their campaign with three wins, one draw and two defeats, scoring twelve goals and conceding seven. In the Round of 16, they drew Tottenham winning the first leg at home 1-0 and drawing 0-0 away from home.

AC Milan were drawn v Napoli in the Champions League Quarter-Final and were winning the first leg at home 1-0 despite being reduced to 10 men and having fewer shots and possession than Napoli. If they can hold on in the next leg they’ll likely face Inter Milan in a Milan Derby in a watering clash for a place in the final.

Chelsea - 28/1

Chelsea won their Champions League group which included AC Milan, Red Bull Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb finishing their campaign with four wins, one draw and one defeat, scoring ten goals and conceding four. After being handed a tricky Round of 16 draws v Borussia Dortmund they overcame a 1-0 away defeat in the first leg to 2-0 at home and qualify for the Quarter-Final.

With Graham Potter sacked in the lead-up to their first leg match with Real Madrid many were drawing comparisons between this Chelsea side and when Roberto Di Matteo took over mid-season and won the Champions League with an out-of-form Chelsea back in the 2010-11 season.

However, after their 2-0 away defeat v Real Madrid in the first leg it looks unlikely that the returning Lampard can replicate the Di Matteo heroics this season.

Bayern Munich - 33/1

Bayern Munich were drawn in the  “Group of Death” with Barcelona, Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzeň but were pitch-perfect during the group stages winning the group with a record of six wins from six matches scoring eighteen goals and conceding only two.

After being handed another difficult draw v PSG for the Round of 16 they looked to have cemented their title as one of the competition favourites dispatching of them 3-0 on aggregate.

Despite that, Julian Nagelsmann was comically sacked for his style of football, results and off-the-field matters. With Tuchel under charge, many expected them to still compete v Manchester City only for them to be demolished 3-0 in The Ethiad. It looks like a long road back for Bayern.

Benfica - 66/1

It’s nineteen years since a Portuguese Side won the Champions League when Jose Mourinho famously guided Porto to a historic success in 2004. Benfica has been this year’s surprise package led by young star striker Goncalo Ramos who looks destined for even bigger things in Summer 2023.

Benfica shocked many by winning their group which included PSG, Juventus and Maccabi Haifa with an unbeaten record of four wins and two draws scoring sixteen goals and only conceding seven. They got a favourable Round of 16 draw beating Club Brugge 7-1 on aggregate.

It’s looking unlikely they can continue their run to the Semi-Final after losing 2-0 to Inter Milan in the first leg but do feel they’re more likely to overcome their deficit than some of the sides left in the competition.
